It's obviously not good if Patrick Kane isn't cleared to play by this evening yet sitting out a spell could be a blessing in disguise given he's nursing an undisclosed injury sustained almost a year ago. Wouldn't it be good to reach full recovery and be 100% for the team?

I respond:

He had the summer to reach full recovery - if the injury is still an issue affecting his play (and something is affecting his play), a couple of days off seems not likely to help.

The question you should be asking yourself is, what type of injury doesn’t heal itself after a few months off? Didn’t Seabrook have similar issues? So, I would assume Kane’s injury is either hip or spinal in nature. Again, that’s an assumption.

Said "some" and you're right, there are black/white on the other side, too. Have seen both here, though I tend to be hit with the behavior I specifically mentioned. Extreme positions is a common tactic on a lot of chat boards because it engenders more response. Is it that, or do the posters truly believe the "Stan is awful always" and "Stan is a genius and should be treated as one" line of thinking? Who knows?

Stan, like Jerry Krause, proved that he was he to add to a quality core and “retool” for another run. It’s an important skill - seeing what’s still needed and adding complementary pieces.

Krause proved unable to “rebuild” a team from scratch into a competitive entity, and proved unable to find a quality coach after losing the HOF leader.

Bowman hadn’t shown any better yet in the rebuild era, with players or coach.

A bit simplistic, I gues, but an internet board is nothing of not simplistic.

Yes, like with the coaching of accomplished vets v. developing a young team, the skill needed for the time can vary. Few can do both well, like cooking and baking - your best chefs can be horrible bakers and v.v.. One requires exactitude and science, the other is more of an art.

Maybe this team will surprise us and we'll find that both Stan and JC know exactly what they are doing. As a fan, I sincerely hope that is the case. But I also expect leadership (Danny, Rocky) to act if it turns out not to be.

Indeed the greatest GM ever and the old Stan can't draft trope. So Dach isn't legit, Dinky doesn't count cause he fell to the Hawks and Reichel's all hype I suppose.
- HawkintheD

Saad, Danault, Terravainen, the unfortunate Jimmy Hayes, Hartman, the Great Panarin and Kubalik are not chopped liver either all acquired while drafting low or found and signed while hard against the cap.

Whatever it is it has been there a long time now and not healed. But every time I try to say his days are limited I get shouted down "he's the type of player who can easily play to 40."

You will likely not get disagreement to the statement: "he left it all on the ice" when describing Kane, Seabrook or many of the Blackhawks of the Cup era.

Edit: because they have. And you cannot ask for more.

The hits keep coming: Khaira and Stillman as well as Crawford on COVID protocol.

Mitchell recalled from Rockford.

To wit:

@ByScottPowers
Patrick Kane isn't on the ice warmups. It'll be the first time he's missed a game since the 2018-19 season. It'll just be his second missed game since the 2014-15 season he was out with his collarbone injury.

@MarkLazerus
That game Kane missed during the 2018-19 season was in Vancouver. He was sick. The Blackhawks lost. A few days later, Joel Quenneville was fired. Kane openly wondered if he could have saved Q's job by playing that night.

Is he in tonight? Who knew his quote about when he finally got in the lineup he wasn't coming out was going to be due to Covid? Ok, that was actually pretty foreseeable.

The Blackhawks site at 540pm - shortly before game time - said that Kharia and Stillman will not play tonight. They are in covid protocol

I believe that the future defense has Stillman with Galvas as third pair. Have to think both players pan out. I really wonder, Theo, if the Icehogs are playing the same system as Colliton.

Should the Icehogs coach be promoted, I hope he does not use Colliton's system

I also have to believe that long term Mitchell will be solid. I like him with Kalynuk on second pair. Obviously this puts S Jones with McCabe as often the most used TOI dmen. C Jones is the depth or third pair should Stillman and or Galvas falter

Get rid of the slow dumb Mitchell. A veteran should not make the decisions he is prone to do. As the league gets faster Murphy will have a bigger challenge to skate well enough. If any team would take him for third pair and depth at the trade deadline. Please take Murphy

Although we have Beaudin and Kyrs in the AHL, long term I like the history and development seen and, hopefully, to come as far as Crevier, Kaiser, and Vlasic.

Both Rogula and Kyrs need to stay healthy and develop. I am sour on Beaudin while Phillips is at least two years away.

How long until the Wings score their first goal? I say 46 seconds into the first period.

So if JC wins tonight without Kane or Crawford being the coach whisperer behind the bench, do we blame them?

Yep he's still in - he was patient 0 on the Hawks.

They just said Bertuzzi couldn't play last night against Montreal because of a "vaccine situation," but he's cleared to play us? Seems like a day might not make a difference. Must be Canada v. US rules. Do they only have to have one of the two here to play?

That is my understanding that players like Bertuzzi who aren't vaccinated aren't eligible to play in Canada. Anyone can correct me if that is inaccurate or only partially true.

Yeah, makes sense. Thanks. Not sure why I assumed it was because he has only one shot, though I know the US was preventing Canadians without two of the *same* shot from entering. Wondered if that was reciprocal.

You have to be vaccinated to cross most borders. I’m not sure a Canadian can go into the US unvaccinated either?
