Oh you’re not going to be watching it?
- Dozzer

I’m going out to play some guitar tonight.

Tape it and watch the Leaf slaughter fest tomorrow.

🤘🏽

If they win I may have to quit watching period.

You jamming with people tonight? Playing a show? Or just keeping yourself occupied and distracted at home? Lol

If the team wins, only the playoffs matter. We’ll lose then and trade everybody in the off-season. If the team loses, trade everyone now.

Just a buddy and I…lay down some drums and bass and put some guitar over top just for fun. He’s a really good player, I’m just ok….but it’s fun.

He’s 1 of these guys been playing for 35 years, doesn’t have cable tv or internet…plays drums - guitar - keyboard bass, has a little studio. blah blah blah.

But can you understand how the slavishly positive people and those who push the "it's only been 5 games" narrative are casually dismissing those who are more critical? It's dismissive and "triggers" those so-called "negative" types.

Hell, I don't even like being called "negative". That label seeks to diminish my critical voice as someone whose raison d'etre is just to "stir" poop up. That couldn't be further from the truth.

- mjones242

Just to clarify from the last blog . . .

I am not piling on you when I talk to you. Part of the reason I would go out of my way to talk to you, fifty and Drunken Canuck is that I generally respect and understand your takes on hockey as a whole and they are not baiting or trollish (I sometimes wonder about DC, but . . disappointment and disparagement come across differently from different people!) - you're just looking for something different than this team is going to do. They aren't smushing people into the ice or the boards. They are also not trading Marner anytime soon, so whether they should have or shouldn't have is irrelevant. I mean if we really want a time machine, then they shouldn't have signed Tavares (but they still should have traded Kadri!).

I'm attempting to illustrate why I think there's time for this team to really impress. They have shown little physicality - but they have players who can do it. The lines aren't consistently performing - but they will. The defense has been at times porous with poor gap control - especially in the middle (something they had worked to fix last year; Bogosian wasn't the glue that bound that together!).

If you go read your comments in the last blog, are they specifically negative? They feel that way, but they also sought response because I don't buy it.

"It's early days yet but I remain super unimpressed with this team's ability to consistently compete."
- mjones242

"Sure, it's been only 5 games, but I'll be damned if this team still looks like they know they're elite but can't be bothered to put in a 100% effort night in and night out"
- mjones242

"The "it's only 5 games" narrative would jive with me more if it wasn't for the team looking as ineffective and unable to solve the defensive puzzle as they did against the Habs last post-season.

I'm starting to think Keefe's possession strategy may not be all its cracked up to be. And I've never been a big Keefe detractor but I think I'm warming up to the idea that some of this lack of production is on him."

- mjones242

That was why I was addressing you as well, because I think all three of you (as well some others like Barb, and so on) are really early to condemn the team and the system in place.

Look I can obviously be wrong here, but possession hockey has won cups and tournaments for generations - but it needs to be done right. Possession hockey isn't the problem - the problem could be getting the right people with the puck to do the right things at the right time. So far some of key distributors and key contributors have not been doing their jobs.

I mean someone earlier (not you; I think it was DrunkenCanuck) had asked how Shanahan could condone our style of play when he didn't play that way - except the team he won multiple cups with DID play possession style hockey. But if Yzerman wasn't making setup passes, Lidstrom wasn't engaged, or Shanahan wasn't cashing in, then the possession style for them also wouldn't have worked.

Bottom line (imo): It's 5 games; it's a new team from last year; the struggling guys will stop struggling; the system is actually working without the best players performing, but without the top guns shooting, we're getting the wrong results.

(Note: Edited the first sentence because I didn't think it truly expressed what I was trying to say)

Lol I know guys like that… hell I used to be one (I always had internet tho, just played in preference, probably cause those were the days limewire was still a big deal
Lol)

I don’t play as serious any longer, but to be fair just a few days ago my gf bought me a nice fender acoustic for strumming around the house

That’s cause bass by itself isn’t the easiest way to play a song lol

Only 1 went through him and it was tipped, but he “could” have had it.

This is Leafs nation we’re da best unless we lose, then it’s the goalers fault.

Here’s the trick.

If you’re posting critical comments just make sure you mesh some positive ones in at the same time and then people won’t see you as purely negative any longer, it’s really that simple.

- Dozzer

I think I'm a good faith interlocutor who tries to articulate points in a good faith manner (sure, there's some sarcasm and snark, but it's never over-the-line). If people want to perceive me as being "purely negative" that's on them and not me because I have been positive many times with this team: Willie defender, Dubas defender (with Marner contract exception), consistent AM34 fanboy, and have only ragged on Keefe per the PP.

Sometimes I think people only want to hear positive takes on this team and get sick of seeing some of the same criticisms again and again. I get it. But when you perceive the same poop over and over again how can you not repeat yourself?

It's funny, when I read through the comments section on PPP posts I see a LOT of criticism from a lot of very informed posters. Some of those posters come across as massive egos but I can, at least, appreciate their arguments because they at least come from an informed perspective. If those opinions were voiced in this forum the angst from some here would be off the charts.

To wit: if you think I'm being a Richard or too critical, ignore my post and move on. But I'm not trying to be a negative asshat who just comes here to vent incoherent bs.

Lastly, I'm not speaking for anyone else here but myself.

I love how people are able to handle different volumes of alcohol however people try to define alcoholism by a strict number.

I like my beers as well but I can easily decide not to drink any day as well, and that’s not what alcoholics are capable of… trust me I know from all my time in bars over the last couple of decades (as a musician)

Free entertainment when we lose.

We get all the negativity

Then we get all the “we outplayed them” but got goalied

Then we get “it’s all the goalies fault”

Did you watch the game?

2 of the goals were weak as hell and came right after the leafs scored. So horrible timing to let in weak goals as well.

It wasn’t a good game by him, and I think it effected the team’s confidence as well.

You forgot to include the small fact that a Hutchinson failed to catch a 10 mph floater and dropped it in front of his net. He was putrid, Hill was very sharp.
