The right side of the D could be set for quite a while if Dahlin makes that change permanently.

Dahlin, Jokiharju, Johnson

I'd be looking to sell high on one or two players by the end of this season, and Bryson might be one.
- kingcong39

I’d be fine with that (I like him though) but I don’t think he gets you back what Samuelsson does. Especially if he suits up and puts up solid games this year.

I’d be less inclined to trade Bryson for a 3/4th liner than Samuelsson for a legit middle 6 prospect

speaking of selling high

might be a good time to sell high on Colin Miller

Would you want two predominately LD playing the right side?

Johnson is playing left this season and looks great

anderson is average at best
okposo is slow
dahlin isn't a defensive dynamo
d-corps is weak spot
effort is there, finish is not

they'll be able to beat a small group of teams, will be able to hang with some others, might get lucky against better teams and don't have a prayer against the best teams that are on their game...

While it, like everything else with a bad team, could use improvement, I'm not seeing their current defense corps as a weak spot.

Yes.

Apparently, Dahlin played the right side a lot in Sweden.

Watching Johnson, it seems obvious that he'd be a natural fit to play the right side down the road.

Not at all.

Even yesterday, there was two bad breakdowns that game. Against Boston, a cup contender. That’s not bad

If you could swap a guy who’s probably limited to the 4-6 role for a potential top 6 forward I think I make the swap.

However, I won’t be mad if they move someone else

- sbroads24

absolutely...that said, probably one impact player coming from this draft (hopefully two,) as well as the 2023 draft to go along with the likes of peterka and more than likely quinn for those top-six/nine roles

I don’t mind Dahlin because he’s all over the ice anyways and it’s not like he’s a stud defender where his play would significantly drop there

But I’m not there yet on Johnson playing his offhand in the NHL yet

Even if Johnson cannot, you would still have him, Power, Samuelsson, and Bryson on the left side.

Moving one is super logical.

Selling high for once would be a dramatic change for the Sabres.

I agree with this, I just don’t think we’re set on the right side necessarily

I’d even consider swapping one of them for a natural RD. But they always seem to hold more value so that might be tough

i wonder if we're overvaluing players in their current roles from a defensive perspective with butcher, haag, pyssboy (along with the injured joker) all playing above their preferred slots...and i'll even include dahlin in a defensive role...his first three games were good and showed promise but he still has a lot of learning to do on the fly while shouldering a lot of responsibility

A broader discussion is needed about how to quantify and assess what it truly means to play quality defense, but it will likely take full player tracking being in place before that can happen.

gonna be tough when the losses start piling up...donnie meatballs and his leadership group will have their hands full

Agreed, very interested to see how management reacts as well.

yeah...i guess the questions might include, are they doing what meatballs wants them to do individually and as a team?...if not, is it a miss on their part, on meatballs part or is it a matter of the talent-level being well above where they are?

i happen to think the latter will be of concern this season...which isn't a bad thing

most here, i believe, want management to move ufa's at or before the deadline to maximize return for assets leaving anyway...i don't want to see a tmgm jettison of every ounce of talent in pursuit of draft murrency...i believe it was abjectly detrimental to the team moving forward

I think the skating and puck moving that the defense has fits Granato’s style perfectly

The only one I’m not a fan of long term this season is Hagg. Jokiharju needs to play when healthy as well. They need to figure out what he is

I like him too but Power has size, Dahlin is 6’2 and get more physical as time goes on.

Johnson isn’t small either

I think Samuelsson is expendable and probably due to size/age might hold the most value out of Johnson/Samuelsson/Bryson

- sbroads24

Could be.
I'd wait to see who rises to the challenge and who falls out.
Does Dahlin stay on the left?

I'm not sure if Jokiharju is part of the D when it is filled out by the prospects they have and any trades they make with players this admin likes.
