I think they should start him back to back.

TL;DR: Hutch isn't so bad that I'd risk Campbell's health on a back-to-back.

Huchinson has played 17 games since Babs was let go and has a .905 save percentage with a GSAA of -1.4.

In the last three years since the start of 2019, these goalies have a save percentage in the .904 - .906 range:

Andersen, Gibson, Bobrovsky, Broissoit, Korpisalo, Kahkonen

Since GSAA is a cumulative stat (so playing less like Hutch does favour his number), if you convert that to a GSAA/60 he compares with Price, Georgiev, Samsonov - all goalies who have performed a little below average, but pretty much are average goalies.

The Hutch hate stems from the fact that the 2019 defense put together by Dubas did not mesh with the defensive constructs put together by Babcock, and it was a disaster. Everyone suffered in that system. No one really cared one way or the other for Hutch, but the 6 games he played in 2019 under Babcock as a coach were disastrous - he was 0-6 with a .879 save percentage. He was a little better, but still well below average under Keefe @ 4-5, .892.

Again, I would never advocate for him as a full-time backup. He's just not that good, but he got the job done well enough last year (4-2-1; .919).

Yet Hill is by far and away their best goalie.

You can’t expect Campbell to go through two hard practices and then two starts and survive the season. That’s essentially begging him to get exhausted or even hurt.

- Dozzer

Campbell's got an injury history and its clear were going to be massively reliant on him.

I have zero issue not forcing the issue there. Let the man rest.

It's like they put no thought into it - or deliberately put sadistic thought into it:

Yeah, unfortunately, that's the only thing you could possibly spend 10.9M on.

But let's just be (dis)honest: Mitch Marner is an absolutely untouchable player who should never, ever be traded because he's totally the type of player that will bring us to the promised land.

You could never find anything of value with 10.9M that could make this lineup better. Nope.

Again, maybe just playing devil's advocate or being attracted to risk but...

If Campbell is injury prone and we're going to be massively reliant on him, won't that house of cards fall at some point late in the season or in the playoffs when we need him the most?

This is true. Trading Marner would be actually morally wrong.

To me it's this: Jack Campbell has yet to play more than 31 games in an NHL season. This year we will be target him at around 45 games or possibly more if Mrazek continues to have health issues himself.

Why push it? When the muscles are tired, that's when things go awry. This isn't even necessarily a case of injury prone inasmuch as it's muscle training. Let him show he can manage a heavier workload before he's pushed into an even heavier one. Doing a very cursory look at Jack's gamelogs, I can see a number of occasions where he _played_ in back-to-back games, but none where he started in back-to-back games.

Ignoring the obvious sarcasm parts of what you have written I don't recall anyone saying the other piece?

Some folks are saying let him continue to grow and maybe we shouldn't just give up on a 1st all star winger who is 24 years old and has a history of winning in other leagues.

I feel like if the Leafs trade him years from now that trade has a lot of potential to crack the top 5 worst Leaf trades list - almost regardless of what they get for him.

I'm willing to be patient (more patient), doing things the right way is harder and takes more time and it's fair to say mistakes were made but it's not like Leafs Mgt. have made more mistakes than positive moves -at least not to me.

I think the argument could be made that not if he's managed sufficiently, or that if he is managed sufficiently the odds significantly decrease.

At least by then in theory we should be having a healthy Mrazek and not Hutchinson.

They're all one off places.

Johnny's is a mom and pop that's been around as long as the Leafs' cup drought

Highly recommend if you're ever around 401/vic park
