Nylander just have tripped onto the ice last night during the penalty kill - jribout
He’s the 5th forward when it comes to ice time on the PK for the leafs this year with 3:17 so far. Roughly averaging 39-40 seconds a game
Obviously not the top pairing but far more than poopty defensive players ever get |

It’s blatantly obvious leaf fans can get far too consumed into their team.
This is a perfect example. - Santo_44

I know he can’t take penalties with Keefe or he gets demoted but when the SJ guy spears his stick under the goalie and NR is right there….I’m mad when he doesn’t rag doll him - Garnie
Yeah, it’s sad how far they’ve fallen since the Tucker days.
They discourage physical play at all costs, it’s the way the coach and GM want them to play. They’re trying to reinvent the game but it’s not working. That’s what I love about watching EDM vs CGY. Lists of skill, grit, and intensity. |

Not mad at all, you guys assume because some one is not enjoying their favorite hockey team that they're mad. I can assure you my day is filled with happiness.
But we are all here posting what we think because we love the Leafs and want a Cup. This isn't my job, it's more of an annoying hobby.
The point, some on here think they're right ALL the time but yet I still see no Cups.
Just wanted to point out that they are obviously wrong because this team isn't winning...and I don't mean just last night, I mean period. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯
PS, winning to me means Championships, not one game against a zamboni driver but 4 games in 4 different rounds in the playoffs. - Barb34
I hear ya, i do.
But no one is winning a cup 5 games in. |

What about the other games? They outplayed Rangers badly. And even last night Leafs outchanced them.
They aren't being outplayed at all... - RogerRoeper
We’ve had the better of high danger chances in 2 outta 5 games…they need to be better then that against weak teams that didn’t even dress some of their best players. I think they will be….hope they will be. We keep saying this year after year though.
We were missing Matthews so I know that was some of the effect…but it shouldn’t be if we’re the best team ever in the cap era - ( that’s from James Tanner )

Agreed Dozzer, like I said when trying to edumicate Drunken Canuck he is 3rd unit PK. So will get more time when Leafs are effectively clearing the puck which allows for quick changes.
On nights like last night when the top 2 units get hemmed in for longer periods of time his PK time will be lower.

All of us should hope not. Leafs let him walk for nothing...a 55-60 goal scorer! That would really suck. - Barb34
He’s doing well however 3 of his 5 goals are on the PP where he’s playing with both McDavid and Draisaitl so he’s basically getting to play with wide open ice.
Another was a PK goal which is when he’s not playing against the oppositions best defensive players.
Only 1 goal 5 on 5 so far.
My guess is he’s the extra guy who basically doesn’t get covered while on the PP where he basically hardly gets covered |

I mean for you, Drunken Canuck, fifty_missions and the others who have been more vocally frustrated with the team predating even this season - you were already angry. Whether it's 5 games into this season, or the 63 they played last year, or the 76 the year before, or whatever - you've already checked out.
They are 5 games in. They have actually outplayed the opposition in most games, save for the one against Ottawa where they didn't bother to show up until the third - they lost and deserved to.
They have done this without Tavares, Matthews, Marner, Muzzin, Holl, Brodie or Kerfoot making a meaningful - or in same cases even useful - contribution. The backup goalie has been injured and forced us into our third string goalie.
We are 2-2-1 despite our best players either not being there or not playing well.
If they had played those 5 games and were 5-0 but had been thoroughly outplayed in all of the games with the top players playing well I'd be far more concerned.
I can't think of a simpler way to explain why I'm not concerned, but that's it ^^. - Monkeypunk
If you have specific criticism over my "vocal frustrations" please make them clear instead of vague assertions that I'm "angry" and "checked out".
You are allowed to have a level of concern that is less, equal, or more than my own. Until I'm flying off the rails in unhinged rants and I'm blasting folks in here personally for disagreeing with my absurd ravings, I think you can dial down your take on my contributions here.
Perhaps I lack some self-awareness here? If I do, please let me know where I've crossed the line into looney tunes takes. |

Yeah I know, he’s definitely been a more versatile player this year and now that 40P players are getting 8+million dollar contracts Nylander is the player the leafs have on a deal. It would be foolish to get rid of him. |

No offence but you do post relatively negative posts about the team or it’s players so you should expect to get chewed up in here. You want to have that perspective fine, but don’t think for a second you aren’t triggering the fanbase’s defensiveness. |

That's the best way to put it, some fans are so convinced it's hopeless that they are checked out - but they don't stop watching, they are hate-watching, or downer watching.
I stopped watching the Leafs in certain years because it was such a poop show. If I really honestly believed a team that is putting up some of its best point totals in 100 years had no chance to contend, I would not watch. I just have never heard of such a thing in sports, that a team that is near the top of the standings has absolutely no chance whatsoever. I find that to be a simply bizarre conviction. - Zezel
I'm not convinced it's hopeless.
I'm not checked out.
I don't think this is a poop show.
I'm voicing my concern and what I believe has been a systemic issue with this team for the past few years that has not been addressed. You can disagree with my takes but dismissing what I'm saying as me being "checked out" or "hopeless" is definitely a mischaracterization. |

He's playing with McDavid after playing with Matthews, I expected a bump in points for him but Hyman would be #1 in points on the Leafs right now with those totals.
McDavid is a beast, so is Drysaitle (sp?)
Hey but we have Tavares, Matthews, Marner and Nylander!!! |

I don't always reply with negative posts, Dozzer. But I do rag on Marner's contract a lot and this team's inconsistent effort a lot.
I'm not angry, crazy, or "checked out".
You are right though: triggering a very defensive fanbase is a thing. |

Last night too IMO...or at least that's what I told myself to get to sleep.
If Hill can't out goalie Hutch, who shouldn't even know how to spell NHL with his talent, Adin's not the goalie everyone says he is. |

Good luck today, boys.
Penguins wont have Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Rust, or Carter... so this game could be a big confidence boaster for you or a killer depending on the final result - SuperHenderson13
