The puck possession game is killing us. Yes, we have the puck a lot, but always on the perimeter. Who cares? Outside of Bunting, we don't really have anyone going hard to the net. A lot of flash and dash along the boards and the blueline - opposition is quite happy to allow that. |

I agree and prefer Marner with JT and Willy with AM.
Also you aren’t winning many games in the NHL when you give up 5 goals. |

Mitch Marner has 1 secondary assist (he was on the bench when the goal was scored) in 5 games.
He's averaging more than 22mins a game.
He's broken. |

I suspect we will be watching this same gong show for another ten games before anyone will have the gonads to do anything about it.
Same reason the PowerPlay went south last year... no urgency. Same plays repeated each and every shift.
someone needs to do something kind and tell them it isn't working - and that trying the moves out on XBox and perfecting them there won't help.

I think you're actually on to something here. Teams seem content to let the Leafs possess the puck but keep them on the outside -- it's almost as if the strategy has been solved.
Maybe time to shuffle the deck chairs on the top lines. 🤷 |

I disagree. They get in for a lot of good chances. They outchanced San Jose significantly tonight. In terms of the down low high danger chances, they were probably about the same. The difference was the bad goals allowed by Hutchinson.
The use the perimeter to move the puck around, create movement and chaos and then push the puck into high danger areas. One thing they are doing this year that I don't like is that they are shooting the puck from low danger areas more. More shots that don't create rebounds (or even really have a chance of doing so) isn't helping.

No. He's been scouted and figured out like every other fancy, small, non-physical player in the league.
That's why they're trying to get him to shoot more, he need NEW tools to be successful.
He is Johnny Hockey 2.0. Someone check the stats....I go by vibe and don't want to ruin it with hockey stats. But point stands.
Just get him the (frank) away from Matthews. Start there.

Sharks are surprisingly a really good team early in the season. Good speed up front and some high end skill on their back end. They might surprise in a weak Western Conference. |

I am not sure what any of that means. In the NHL, teams are no better than their goaltending. Goaltending is a critical part of the game. If the Leafs have inferior goaltending, they will get inferior results. That is just the way it is. |
