having a job is not a problem. all these guys can be let go of if they have a chance to become gm elsewhere. - fidopro
well the question is do they want to leave, if they're happy where they are and aren't aspiring for that position in MTL (which is possible) the conversations might be rather quick.

Especially earlier in the season, rather than going into the trade deadline or the draft / free agency.

(frank)ing hate that philosophy... let's not drive to be a great team, just good enough to get into the playoffs and maybe we get some lucky bounces and a few wins.

There are only 32 positions in the NHL.
If you have a shot at one, i think you take it.

it's looks like a stressful AF job, and you work all the time without any schedule, the constant media scrutiny, etc... I think you're underestimating the negative aspects, and I'd totally understand a guy who wants to keep his position in the organization he's in and eventually get promoted rather than taking that job.

But if you are in hockey, or any pro sports, that is expected - either as a player or coach or gm.
Sure, some markets have more media scrutiny than others, but pressures are pretty much the same anywhere.

maybe so. I guess the next GM that brings a cup to MTL will literally get a god status.

certainly makes his place in history yes.
and that being said, I tell you right now, if the next guy keeps Timmins for more than a week I'll start complaining. |

yeah as I was hinting in my other post if you're able to win in MTL you'll be covered in gold, so I guess it has its interesting potential perks.

even if you don't do that good. read earlier today that 65% of fans want MB to be back. the guy is about to miss the playoffs for the 4th time in the past 5 years if we don't count the 2 covid seasons. (and for both of these covid seasons he made it by the back door) |

You know something, in early years 2000, we were complaining about the Habs having a decent team and always explaining not having a great one by the fact that we were always making the playoffs and never recruiting in top 5…
When I look at Bergevin era, he drafted 3 times in top 10 which is much more than any previous Habs GM…
We had 2-3 good runs in the playoffs and always had a club that was dependant on their goalie…. Last 5 years, we did the playoffs because of CoVID…
Never had a true 1st Centre since Pierre Turgeon…
Long story short, not as disastrous as it looks like but not fantastic either…
I think he had more better trades than bad ones…. Better signatures than bad ones but the MAIN failure is drafting/player development…
I just look at Caufield, how ordinary he was in training camp but was guaranteed a spot on the top 6(same crap with KK to a certain extent…) and I just have mixed feelings with that… |

well, Bergevin hinted that he wanted to be back, which would mean Molson is the one who is hesitating and possibly considering other candidates. the discussion should be less about "hey, let's fire MB" and more about "hey, let's hire this guy". - Pat1993
Why can't it be a little of both?

Molson and MB deserve credit...it isn't easy to burn through the goodwill of a fun Cinderella playoff run and completely embarrass a franchise so quickly. It's actually impressive, not sure if they actively tried to do worse that they could have |

Well, I think this is more about players underachieving than anything else. I don't think they are this bad.
Yesterday was a frustrating one to watch. I don't know if they would have won if they didn't turnover that Gallagher goal, but it seems they were deflated after that.
Unfortunately, I don't see this team string a few wins together, so this losing streak has probably killed their playoff hopes. |
