My point was/is that we don't have another line to shut down the Bruins' top line. They are one of the best lines in the NHL. They seemed to control play even with our top line against them. Imagine what they would do against our 3rd or 4th line. We had last change so we were able to avoid except for that late icing by Sanheim. They scored within seconds of winning the face off.

Some nights you have to go top line versus top line. We were able to hold them in check and we won the game.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Boston has last change against us. Fortunately that only happens once this season.

I agree, if we put our 3rd line against them, couldve been a bad outcome. Not sure why its an issue, we won. Their 1st line is awesome, and for us to limit them, even if it means our 1st line doesn't do much, is a win in my book.

Wonder if AV gave any thought to a timeout?

yeah, why didn't he think of that?

There were a number of positives to take from the game besides just winning. The play of Jones. Not taking penalties. Winning the 3rd period. Stuff you can build on. Farabee and Atkinson aren't likely to light it up the entire season.

for sure. I liked how they shut it down in the 3rd. I do, like you expect more from line 1 next time we play the B's, it was a good first step

I agree that they don't have another line to matchup against them and I made that point during the game last night. Maybe the Laughton line. However that doesn't mean we can sugar coat the play of the first line last night. Is not unreasonable to expect them to push back.
- MJL

I don't know if I want JVR anywhere near the Bruins top line. To me the matchup should have been the Brassard line against the Perfection line, toe to toe, the Flyers best line versus the Bruins best line. I think Cam and Farabee's speed and skill along with Brassard's d-zone play, would be able to put the Bruins line on their heals and make them play defense more, which is the best way to play them ... i.e. puck possession.

First line did their job, kept the Bs too line off the board
- ClaudeFather

However they were dangerous the entire game, if you allow them that much space and puck possession, you are going to pay for it. I think the Flyers were a bit lucky last night in this regard.

not calling that time out on the icing should have him on the hot seat.

Okay math guys... How many points do our top 2 lines have so far this season? Both individually and collectively

And when was the last time we had 2 scoring lines like this?!

If the Flyers come out of this homestand at 3 - 0 - 1 I will be happy. Florida will be a good test, but I think the Flyers can play well against them and win.

Wont matter...people will complain that line2 possession time is down even though the have a "set it up quickly and shoot approach" that is probably stifling it. Those same people will most likely have historically complained we over pass and waste time instead of shooting.

it's actually amazing that this guy thought that coaches collectively forgot they could call a timeout after an icing for the past 4 seasons. especially with his hockey knowledge.

anytime you want to talk about hockey or any major sport let me know. I am sure you played a lot of hockey in your day in that hotbed of fishtown.

Yeah no coach has ever forgotten a rule. Though that is here nor there.

Apologies to AV for whining about the Jones start. Last years team crumbles in that game, nice to see them just play through it. Shots were obviously lopsided but I thought we didn’t give up the back door slam dunks of 20-21. Jones didn’t have any 10 bell saves but he was solid and made the ones he needed to, great start for him.
- ClaudeFather

Yeah. We were wrong to be concerned. Who knew we didn’t know it all haha.

Nice to see that headline. We rarely beat the Bruins and last year was a disaster

What I liked most about last night's game is how the Flyers played in the 3rd period, especially in the final 10 minutes. Last season, it looked like they played scared and almost waited for the shoe to drop. Last night, the Flyers controlled the puck, didn't play passive and did a great job breaking up plays in the neutral zone, thus not allowing the Bruins to pick up speed on their rush into the Flyer's zone. There was a short period of about 5 minutes between 13 and 8 minutes in the 3rd period where I thought the Flyers were passive and allowed the Bruins too much space to operate. I think what makes the Bruins top line so good is they do not need much space to hurt you.
- jd250

That's one YUGE difference that I've seen so far. Even when we are up by a goal or two the flyers never stop pushing. They continuously back check and play hard on the puck when they don't have possession. I didn't see that at all last season.
I know it's early but I seeing a lot of good things from this team. The best compliment that I can give this team right now is that they look nothing like the team from last year.. and it feels good to say that

It's game 3 so it's still early but at least we have entertaining and fun hockey again

As long as they don't make a habit out of playing this way... they were actually controlling play for the most part against Seattle and Vancouver. But Boston's always been tough for them.
- Tomahawk

They definitely need to improve their overall game but I’m happy with the 2 pts when we played our backup, with rr just coming back etc.

I don’t want them to consistently have to iutscore their mistakes but I will say while last year seemed to be panic central on d, last night didn’t feel the same. I’m hoping that’s an indication that well just get better in that regard rather than fold like super man on laundry day.

AV should have just made a line change after that icing. I wonder why he didn't think of that.
