Right but they have the personnel to play it this year. Why isn't our regular defense an extension of the pk, no ones running around chasing the puck, they are taking angles away, passing lanes away, protecting the house, and if they feel they have a chance to get to the puck they do. On that last goal 3 players along the side boards? No reason for that at all.

A lot of it is that I've seen, opponents capitalize on our mistakes more than we can theirs. Overall, I agree, no reason why the pk mentality can't translate to the 5x5 game. Offense starts with defense.

I bet a couple of goals will perk up both places.

All that weaving and not even a sniff of a dangerous chance. No wonder they can t score 5x5, the only team I can see them beat is the Washington Generals.

The maddening thing about Strome is that he gets so close to where he should be and then he pulls up. Over and over and over. If he just skated hard two more strides he could get to the puck or be in on the forecheck or be in a decent defensive position. He is in the vicinity, but that is just not good enough.

Gus was on the Hawks podcast today saying that when you are a new guy (whether rookie or vet) who's joined a team, you want to make an impression. So players being timid and overthinking because they're very worried about making a mistake and about fitting in with the group. Given the number of new guys we have could be one of the big issues.
