Two days off until the next game. Today is Gallows Watch day for JC.

I think we are multiple weeks away unless we still don't have a W. Just reading national and local beat guys who reference "sources".....

How about Keith being taken off the PP
- 6628

By the way, Keith with >21 minutes of TOI last night with the Oil, he’s been <20 minutes in previous games.

Hard for players to succeed if the coaches can't put them in position to do so.
- BetweenTheDots

They succeeded more last year, somehow, with the same coach. Maybe the coach was better at putting them in position to win last year......

Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket....

How many 50/50 pucks have the Hawks won in these 5 games? How many greasy goals have the Hawks scored? Sorry, that is on the players, not any "system".

Being out goaltended each game hasn't helped either.

If they lose to the Wings, then I can’t see Stan not making a move, that would be mind boggling.

Those minutes are much more reasonable. He should do better there.

I'll be there sunday and it should be interesting.

That’s true, but the coach can hold the player accountable, like it was mentioned here, sit them down for multiple shifts. Maybe Kurashev hasn’t produced, but I have not seen him taking any shifts off, if you are going to sit a player for not producing, then might as well bring up all the Hogs and sit everyone else, because currently no one is producing 5 on 5.

I’m not directing this at you, but do the line combos matter anymore? I doubt that JC will find the magical combination to make things better and set the team on a 10 game winning streak.
- DarthKane

I think the lines matter to the players. If they make no sense to us they probably make no sense to the players.
You have Toews looking for his first point and and to get him going Colliton puts a grinder on his left wing. Toews must have been thrilled.
You have scored three 5v5 goals so you separate Kane and Debrincat. Kane must have been thrilled.
Debrincat was on the 3rd line. Debrincat must have been thrilled.

Hey, Mr. The Defense Sucks, how many high danger scoring chances did the Hawks give up last night?

Three. (14-3 in favor of the Hawks).

How many 5-on-5 scoring chances?

Fifteen, while generating 25 of their own.

I know, I know, these kind of stats only matter when they make the Hawks look worse. But I thought a logical, non-emotional fellow like yourself would be interested in some data.....

Coaches can be responsible for instilling the right culture, also. If players don't respond to a coach, then it's time to find another one. Not every change is going to be like going from Yeo to Berube, of course, but that story tells me that a coach can definitely matter when it comes to a team's culture. They didn't want to play for Yeo, that was pretty obvious.

This lines stuff was a big issue here, even during the halcyon days of Coach Q. It was derisively called "The Line Blender" then. All Kane and Cat need to do is put the biscuit in the basket when together and it is less likely they'll have to suffer through such awful linemates.

If last night's game had the same outcome with zero line changes throughout, there might have been a little whining that "JC has to change it up if you're not getting the results, even a beer league coach knows that."

Well the irony is hearing JC in the presser talk about how you can't give up a goal that easily, the 2nd goal against, yet he continues to play this moronic system where 3 guys go to the boards, Toews follows Hughes along the blue line, 19s stick is no where near the shooting lane, There is no kind of defensive pressure on the puck because its at center ice, then you have deHaan not taking away the stick of the guy who's in front of the net? These are all coaching points, if you give up 4 points a game you can't win in this league, but you're just stuck on offense, what are you JCs cousin

To me, that is the best reason to change coaches now. I don't like the defensive results overall the past couple years (especially from the forwards), but the culture thing is no bueno.

You're a numbers guy, no? Is n=5 a statistically large enough sample to form conclusions?

Accurate points. The last 2 games have been trending up. Goaltending has been meh so far. If they continue to out shoot and out chance the other team, they’ll win their share.

True, but I think the culture thing is a real problem in the meantime.

I think they like the guy, but that he's lost the room. Both can be true, imo.

And the heat chart shows that they kept both the Isles and Van SATs to the outside. Except for inexplicable breakdowns that can last for too many minutes (and goals against), and some not very helpful goaltending, the defense hasn’t been terrible.

The first clearing pass has been much better than, say, last season - it’s after that that things break down - getting thru the neutral zone and either cleanly into the ozone, or dumping with a successful chase. They can’t set up to put sustained pressure on the goalie - all one-and-done. And, of course, too little net front presence.

Just my vision….

Agree that the last couple games looked much better; but those breakdowns are killing them, especially because nobody is scoring.

I still don't think so....I don't disagree.....as his seat should be HOT as it, but if we believe guys like Powers, or Freidmann.....COlliton is safe for now as is Bowman. SO I don't know what that implies other than they are giving this team time to gel and apparently the win now mantra isn't as strong as we all were to believe.....

My answer was to Dots who thinks a new system (coach) will solve everything.

I agree with this....it's not a non stop firing range from point blank on the goalies...however once a breakdown does happen it just seems to snowball in a bad way. Goes from a 1-1 battle to a 2 goal deficit....in both the 2nd period last night, and the 3rd period vs NYI

lack of confidence? Sure...but they need a win where were some guys get off the hump, play well defensively and control a large portion of the game while putting in a consistent effort for 60 minutes....Minimum 3 goal win....once that happens, maybe the tide turns...who the hell knows.

As much as we as fans want bowman and Colinton gone it's not going to happen. As long as fans continue to come to game and purchase Blackhawks merchandise this is where the hawks will mired in medicored. Right now they following the bears bulls and white Soxs blueprint. Unless fans stop going to game and buying hawks stuff or really gets so bad that public pressure gets so bad that management is forced to make a move this what we have a gm that does not know how to rebuild a team and coach that cannot coach and get his message across. We as fans will have to accept it.
