I need enough money to have my own flat, take care of my incoming doggy, and give my girlfriend enough time to find a job.

Yeah, I might still see the Habs having 5 8-goals scorers, but the probability is getting lower and lower.

I would expect a GM to look at the team and realize he does not have the pieces to compete, and put himself in a position so the team can compete next year or the year after.

Trading away a 1st round pick+ does not help that.

Bloating your cap with unnecessary contracts, unless you are eating someone's salary dump in exchange for prospects / picks makes no sense.

He had flexibility to do a lot of things, but decided to just make the team a little better rather than leverage that flexibility as the season goes on.

- Mashadar

This is it right here. It's not the individual moves on their own or the filling holes or whatever...it's the lack of sober, honest recognition of where the roster truly was/is and the decision to try and compete rather than do what was needed

that's the thing though, how the team has played so far after these horrendous 4 games isn't necessarily representative of where this roster is at right now, they haven't even played close to their potential yet.

Can't wait for the Geoff Molson presser tomorrow:

"Despite bringing the team to the SCF for the first time since 1993, we felt confident after 4 games that Bergevin didn't do his job properly this summer and should be fired.

We want to thank special consultant Mashadar for his relentless hate towards Marc these past 8 years."

honestly im surprised Bergevin wasn't like "so anyone wanna take about Logan Mailloux??"

Based on preseason what makes you think these four games aren't inductive of who they are? Sure there are injuries and all that but I said it when Weber was essentially announced as dead that the Habs needed to take a sober look at the roster...take one now and convince me without needing a hope and a prayer that this team is better than they've shown thus far

I don't need to convince you nor do I feel like trying, I just don't believe they are this bad.

3 wins away from a Stanley cup.

You can claim what you want, the man's plan came pretty damn close to working.

Now if he should have doubled down on that core, is another story but it's not like every team has cap space available to take our vets away in 1 month time either.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say what happens next is the Habs lose a bunch of games and miss the playoffs.

Oh wait, that's what everybody knew was going to happen before the season ever started.

in hindsight the preseason was a major red flag. it's not normal to get run out of the rink they way they did in 3-4 of those games in preseason. but at the same time, it was preseason, with half NHL rosters playing other half NHL rosters. that these no-shows have continued into the regular season indicates that this goes beyond the talent gap. i'm not going to pretend this is a stacked roster. it's not. but there's absolutely no reason they should be this bad.

But people knew this team was not as good as last year's team.

And last year's team would have struggled to make the playoffs this year.

So yeah, they are better than they have shown, but they are not so much better to get into the playoffs. While I am surprised at how bad they have been, I am more surprised that people did not see them as a bottom tier team to begin with.
