Maybe I worded it poorly but I was mostly responding to "3 wins away from a Stanley cup".

What happened in playoffs last year is basically irrelevant.

So much has changed since then, that using the success last year in post-season as a yard-stick on where the team is this year would be a mistake.

yeah, I agree with this and I don't think scabeh's post was implying otherwise either... anyway there is nothing really to compare it with because of all the changes but so far there's no need for any measuring sticks, it's only been one big pile of fecal matter

Guy hasn't looked well mentally for a while, vaccine mandates really hit him hard in his personal values. Hope he's taking care of himself and will come back here in a near future. He looks like a good person.

What isn't reassuring is that aside from Fairbrother, Ylonen and Harvey-Pinard...there aren't any real Habs prospects there. Poehling, Teasdale and Brook are injured. Hillis and Khisamutdinov are with Trois-Rivières.

I know, I forgot Vejdemo...but at 25 years old I don't think he qualifies as a prospect anymore.

Well, Harris, Struble, Norlinder, Guhle are all pretty decent prospects not playing with Laval. I'm not too worried.

I'm not too worried about the LD depth in our prospect pool. Let me finish posting man...

Seriously though, you got Roy, Kidney and Kapanen from last draft that could be good as well...Mailloux at RD as well.

Problem is, Habs have a tendency to draft for current needs while prospects will be ready to play in ~5 years....which is pretty dumb.

I'm always hopeful with prospects but I've seen enough drafts with "five first round picks" to give them some time before I start to count on them having any impact. Some of the starts have been nice to see though.

Correct. Always draft bpa. Always. Not like we can look at recent draft history to see poor decisions based on trying to fill a need rather than going bpa

Which is why Timmins/Bergevin need to go...

"Building a contender takes time and you do it through the draft"

*gets good spot in the draft, draft based on present organizational needs instead of BPA.

i think they draft based on pipeline gaps more than what the NHL team needs. but i agree, it's usually not BPA.
