Why does neither Theo nor any commenter mention Fleury? To say I've been unimpressed is an understatement. I thought 3 of those 4 goals were something that even Crawford on a bad day might have saved.
- ktsparks

Honestly, I was going to add a comment in this recent blog about Fleury but didn't as I didn't know how to quite articulate what I've observed so far without putting an unfair or unsubstantiated analysis on him.

Part of me thinks he's disinterested and having this team defense in front of him exacerbates that motivation. Yet, I don't see him as the type to just throw in the towel and will at least play his part to help the team compete. It's tough for me to prove either way.

What about the common courtesy to Fleury? Why you want to hide that the "Coach" believes he needs a break?
- LAHawk

Well. I guess you COULD be transparent and tell Fleury outright that he's stunk so far. (Alongside the defense, of course). Fleury needs no protecting. If you can't thus far, differentiate yourself from a young backup, then please sit down for a spell. We'll really need you at crunch time. Make everyone happy so there are no hard feelings.

I don't understand why people think Fleiry was some sort of savior

He was ridiculously overpaid by Vegas in his 3yr 21m dollar contract

He rewarded then with a bad season to where they then went out and paid Lehner 5mil per

They gave away Fleury because they know that this was more of who he is at this stage

The Hawks were going to need a Vet goalie. He can help Lank, hopefully....and he's gone after this year

But hea a .905 with about a 3.00gaa (give or take) at this point of his career....although he's being paid like a star

Just because media hypes him...there has to be some reality check

Best case IMO with MAF is around the TDL, some team needs the insurance/depth...he wants a last run on a team, and the Hawks can get a 3rd or 4th for nothing but his name being MAF

It's too late to turn back now. Bowman has backed this team into a corner and they will be knocked out no matter what happens. Let's go back a short while ago...signs Kane and Toews to 10.5 million contacts each. Kane was/is worth it...Toews despite great leadership and faceoff capabilities, he was NEVER worth it. Signed Seabs to a ridiculous contract...to move his contract we took on a small, aging unproductive and over paid player in Johnson...signed Bickell to a ridiculous contract and then to move him we gave up Teuvo...traded a MVP candidate in Panarin for a former player who was never worth his money...traded a young defender for a middle aged defender (Jones) and then gave him a RIDICULOUS contract. Someone mentioned asking Kane and Toews if they would like to waive NM clauses and go elsewhere, this will bring up more issues since we will have to either retain salary or take back another big poor contract or even worse give up a young player and do one of the aforementioned. NO ONE will take Jones off our hands. Fleury will play this year and walk not that that will be a loss since he never was going to consider staying...Lehner would have been a better keeper. THIS TEAM IS IN SUCH DISARRAY AND I HAVEN'T EVEN MENTIONED THE POOR COACHING. Watch a game and count how many times we pass the puck to a player who is so completely covered that it ultimately turns the puck over to the opponent. Count how many times we send the puck around the boards behind the net only to have it go directly to an opponent. Count how many times the goalie plays the puck behind the net only to do the same thing, send it to an opponent. Count how many dump ins are NOT retrieved by a Hawk player in BOTH the offensive and defensive zones. I have never been so sure of anything in my life, this team as it is playing now, with the coaching staff as is WILL NOT EVEN SNIFF THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING IN THE PLAYOFFS LET ALONE BE CUP CONTENDER.

You lost me as soon as you started about the Toews and Kane contract. AT THE TIME OF THE SIGNING, a legitimate argument could be made that Toews was the best overall player in all of hockey. Obviously in hindsight, Kane lived up to the contract, and Toews didn't, but Toews was an absolute beast from 2013 to 2015. I read an article a while back (I searched but couldn't find it) where the writer was looking at WAR for those years and was shocked at how good Toews was compared to the other superstars in the league. The writer said he wasn't a big fan of Toews, and the numbers caught him off guard.

Only goalie signed for next year is Soderblom. Lanky, Delia, Subban all UFA's

That's cool.

Not sure any of them are long term solutions, IMO

I agree, just noting. League has a book on Lankinen, shoot high, lets see if he can adjust.

Hardman was specifically brought you to shake the opposition up.

He threw 6 hits.

The last one was answered by Matt Martin who had three hits before the one on Hardman.

Matt Martin has been taking care of business for a long while.

I don't begrudge him.

Not sure at all either. Lanky can be good in spurts, but a long term starter? Meh!

At the time I also looked at Toews as the best all around player in the league. There was a reason why Bab's had to ask Toews to let Crosby be the C at the Olympics, not the other way around.

Unfortunately those day are are in the past

I enjoy the debate on all these old contract signings, because it’s a fresh and relevant topic.

Our present situation is that Toews and Kane have two years remaining on their contracts. For whatever reason, the decision was made to try to field a team that could compete in the present, hence the trades for Fleury and Tyler Johnson, and offering the contracts to McCabe and Khaira and Gus. We can certainly question how well all that has worked out so far.

Seems like a heavy lift for the purposes of placating two players, on the downside of their careers. (I know there was more to it than just that). I can appreciate the fact that Stan brought in upgrades to the roster and made an attempt. It's early, and there is something to be said of that oft-repeated saying. Don't think that anyone here has given up hope. But, 33, it's plain ugly thus far, wouldn't you agree?

If you had to blame this pathetic road trip on one person, look no further than Hakstol, who seems LOST behind the bench and unable to motivate his team.

We've been out-coached this ENTIRE road trip.

The term used has a history of being used as a slur or derogatory term. Lesbians and others in the LGBTQ+ community have since reclaimed the term as a way to be empowered.

Also, the manner in which a term is used makes a difference on whether it's meant to empower others or be derogatory.

- Theo Fox

So, referring to it because they use it is now an un-word for those who are not them? Seems hypocritical.

At some point, we need to figure out a better path to real relief from chronic and serious pain. It's easy for me to say don't do it, but I don't deal with anything that would make me crave a temporary respite from such pain. I have seen people desperate for any kind of relief from chronic pain. It is not a pretty sight.

Whatever term that was used - Lesbian, Dyke, Queer, LGBT….

Why - in an anti-Lightfoot post - did the poster have to refer to her sexuality at all?

He (I assume) could have just posted a negative post about the mayor without mentioning it at all - actually, certainly, SHOULD have done so. It does not bear on her ability / inability to do the job; or whether or not she have been a good mayor.

It only goes to show the homo-phobia of the poster (and it certainly does that). Kind of irony (lost on the poster,. I’m sure) when claiming Lightoot is racist.

Not everyone who disagrees with you is a socialist.

Most of us just…uhhh…disagree with you.
