He's gonna be a beauty.

I hope Amirov pans out, but I really did want Askarov. Lousy Nashville and their carousel of All-Star goaltenders

Carey Price was drafted in 2005 and didn't get his 1st NHL game until 2007..
I don't think any goalie in the past 25 years has played in the NHL at the age of 18. Not even Luongo and the Islanders were brutal back then.

Edit: Not since Tom Barasso

- PatC80

I totally cheated:

Jocelyn Thibault and Dan Blackburn got significant starts as 18 year olds.

A few others got a game or three - including Mary Biron.

Draft the tallest goalie available in the 4th round.

And then develop him properly.

- Atomic Wedgie

Jack Campbell is a perfect example of all the talent but poor development.

Also being a goalie is mentally exhausting, have to take care of them there too.

The Leafs have two goalies on that Russian system in the KHL, I'd have to bet that drafting them is much about the system as it was talent.

The guy on the radio machine in my car was saying that the Russians aren’t pushing technique on goalies at an early age. They want them to develop their instincts and their ability to follow and read the play. Technique comes a little bit later. Sherstskin/whateverskin was always right on the play last night. But he has has great technique. He’s up fast, with his body in great control. He really is a good goalie.

That makes sense development wise… instinct first and then the technique can be adjusted accordingly so that their natural skills are amplified

That is pretty much my point, if he wasn’t able to develop further he would have been a wasted pick

“Dad, I want to play hockey and I want to be a goalie.” If I had only known what that was going to cost me. His first game - played on a small ice pad, 3-on-3 - they scored 28 goals. “You want to keep playing?” “Yep!”

New sets of pads, every year or so, lessons, teams, travel (we played in Vegas, Europe). It was great and he still has friends. But being a goalie dad almost killed me.

5 of 8 possible points without their best player for 3 of the games and you’re complaining. Altho is may change a little tonight they are currently tied for first overall in the league with the penguins and the rangers

Yeah, but I’ll admit it’s pretty obvious Price panned out. However there’s loads of goalies picked league wide in the first couple rounds that have never made it.

He loved the tension. I didn’t. I was just sitting in the stands. I started smoking again every year during during tryouts.

Cheering for the avalanche, sharks, stars, devils, panthers, canucks T, red wings T, jets, predators, islanders, and the ducks tonight

Yes that would put the panthers and the ducks tied for first with 6 points but (frank) Tampa bay and Edmonton lol

And it will leave 5 teams tied for second with the leafs, penguins, rangers, canucks, and red wings

And yes I know the sharks have two more points than Montreal but (frank) the habs too lol

But what’s your complaint? You have a “bad feeling”? It could be something completely unrelated to hockey: maybe you think your wife is cheating on you you or you’re worried about climate change or your looks. It’s hard to have a serious conversation with you - and we all really do - when all you say is that you have a “bad feeling”.

Losing to the Rags is soul crushing though. It’s not like it’s a real team like Lougod’s NYI

The rangers are tied for first in the league as well and the only reason they won was their goalie saved 40 friggin shots!!

That game was won by their goaltender more than anyone
