Actually I completely understand it...Hockey organizations doing this is a huge step to other companies following suit. Hockey has been dominated by the old white men types(Don Cherry) for years and to make this sort of change is a big step.
We are coming into an age where self expression has proved to be important.

People realize that dressing up 12 year olds in a shirt & tie for hockey games just perpetuates assimilation and suppression of personality, right?
Totally agree with this. "its been like that for years" just tells me you don't care which is perfectly fine. There are many who clearly do and its why we are seeing change. It's nice to see.

Since I haven't been perfectly serious in this thread, I want to clarify my real position (because I am definitely not an "old time hockey" curmudgeon):
I fully support players expressing themselves and not having to wear a stuffy suit. Fashion rules should absolutely be relaxed to allow for individual expression while also following a reasonable dress code.
I love AM34's sense of style as it allows his personality to show and he obviously takes great pride in his commitment to fashion. I doubt I'd ever wear half the things he does but it's super cool that he's willing to push boundaries. I think it's hilarious when people snort in derision at his sense of style -- as if his private fashion life should be mocked or shows that he lacks gud pro hockey sensibilities.
