Ellis is exactly as advertised. A smart well rounded player who does a lot of little things well and can play in any situation. Gotta love that beard. He is the type of guy that makes other guys play better around him.
- peesinwind

Love the way he simply gets out of danger. He turned the puck over in the defensive zone but was able to quietly get the puck back and skate away from 2 defenders and clear the zone. Never any panic.

I want to see Risto but he is much more likely to make mistakes. Hopefully his physical presence makes up for a couple of mistakes.

Ellis is just solid.

Odd question... Does anyone else think that Seeler reminds them of Pronger? Obviously Seeler is smaller. But, general looks and the way he carries himself? Maybe it's the slicked back hair. It struck me, when Seeler was screaming after the fight. Maybe it was the angry and emotion?

Bassard should stay on that line after Hayes returns.

Easily could've been 0-2 Seattle in 1st. Hart had two big stops. Then we got going.

Liked the intensity and answering the bell.

Really like Ellis. He quietly does defensive things we have not had in a few seasons. Beauty of a goal too.

Can't wait to see Risto added to mix.

Need G and TK to keep being greedy and shooting.

JvR looks good on PP1. His goals will come.

PK needs more 100% nights.

Solid observations and agree. I particularly like how guys are shooting lots. This has to keep up. PK and goaltending.. keep it up.

They're both going to be tough games, so I don't know about shielding him. Wasn't it you who was saying you'd like to see Hart play about 60 games? If Jones starts 1 out of every 4, that puts Hart pretty much right there.
- Ftown19125

It was, i just don’t see why he can’t play Wednesday, Saturday, and then give Jones the first game on the Canadian road trip

It's obvious Ben Simmons wants out...getting kicked out of practice and suspended after you just got back is not how you increase your trade value though. He's either very immature or he's getting really bad advice (or both).
- Sublime55

It’s the former for certain, and possibly the latter. and you’re right

They have Florida on Friday. I guess AV doesn't want to play Hart 4 in a row.
- MJL

plus Hart absolutely sucked last year against the Bruins, it's the smart play up to start Jones. Got to manage Hart early this season to be sure you are setting him up for success.

There is no flaw. The Brassard line was clearly outplayed in game 1. Brassard wasn't good in game 1 and didn't play at a level you need from a 2C. He did in game 2. His game away from the puck is okay but need more from a 2C. Which I don't entirely blame on him. He's been placed in a spot he really shouldn't be used in due to injury.
- MJL

Bassard is plus 4 and has 3 points in two games. I’m thinking he deserves a little credit. How about I say that this is not sustainable and he is not a great second line center and you say he’s playing better then you expected?

I thought Willman played well. I like NAK play as well - if he can play the edge and keep the penalties low. Both have an opportunity to solidify a spot if they play well. Also, Wade Allison coming back may push another to the crowded fourth line - JVR, if he doesn't start scoring?

1st: 28 Claude Giroux - 14 Sean Couturier - 11 Travis Konecny
2nd: 86 Joel Farabee - 13 Kevin Hayes - 25 James van Riemsdyk/ 57 Wade Allison
3rd: 23 Oskar Lindblom - 19 Derick Brassard - 89 Cam Atkinson
4th: Brown/Laughton/MacEwen/Thompson/Willman/Nicolas Aube-Kubel

- leon neon

I hope I'm wrong but I don't think you will see Allison this season.

Brassard does deserve credit which is why I said he played a good game last night multiple times. He's not playing better than I expected. He's playing like the borderline 3rd line center or a decent 4th line center that I thought he could be. It's important to look at the process because that is what you look at to determine what is sustainable.

I have been watching the process. He has been noticeable in both games. All the stats we both brought up depend on other factors such as teammates performance or the level of the players they are going against and their performances or the goalie making a great save or letting a weak shot. Some of his numbers look fantastic and some look dismal. But he is not washed up. I believe that was what you thought we were getting. If washed up means a boarder line 3rd line center for 825 then sign me up to be washed up.

In my opinion he looks to be sparking that line. At the very least in my opinion he doesn’t look out of place.

Edit: and if you meant he is not the player he once was at 27 year old when you said washed up then I agree.

I completely disagree that Brassard is sparking that line. Against Vancouver, Brassard was the weak link. The wingers are driving that line clearly. Flyers traded some key assets to improve the team with the idea of contending. They're going to do that with a border line 3C? He was not good against Vancouver. He played well last night. Got a puck to the net and got a good bounce and made a real nice pass to set up Ellis. It's very early and there are two big games coming up that will be measuring sticks.

Okay. Different opinions then. I’m okay with that. The next two games will be a tough test especially missing a couple pieces in the line up. Not sold on Jones yet. Missing Their second line center and I fully believed Allison is a starter on this team.

This will be a stiff test for sure.

if he really has a high ankle sprain I know from experience that he will wake up one day and it feels significantly better. The nature of the injury is the reason his return date is indefinite.

As Iv'e said, once he reaches a level of pain he can tolerate he will start to be able to play. Its not something he can reinjure normally if he returned too early like a broken bone.

I would be surprised if he isn't back before Christmas.

Pronger is a no argument top 20 all time defenseman and probably top 10 all time. He the type of player who gets the waiting period waived to get into the hall of fame. The player you asked if he reminds anyone of Pronger in any way shape or form is batpoop crazy talk.
Unless they were they were having a drink together and you said “I saw Pronger and Seeler having some cold ones” they should never be even remotely in the same thought bubble

Typical Ghost. He has 4 assists on the season and still manages to be a minus 2 for the season. Dude needs to score at least 65 points a season to be worth all of his issues in his own zone. Good riddance!!

Why oh why is Jones starting tomorrow night? You have a good thing going. Why does AV do these things? I mean, it's not back to backs and their next game isn't until Saturday night(after tomorrow night's game). Jones terrifies me!! He looks slow and looks like he has major issues tracking the puck. Worst signing/trade of the off season by far.

the nature of the injury. They were thinking about surgery at one point which tells you the seriousness of the injury and f he got it that would cost him the season I think they decided against surgery for now since they have time to see how it heals, i.e. if it's not healing they can opt for surgery and be ready for next season. As a result I am not expecting much of anything from him this year. Like I said I hope I'm wrong.
