I don’t think Bunting or Kase go anywhere before Engvall, not that I agree with it…but they have a while to prove their worths as Mikey won’t be back for awhile.
- Garnie

Yes they will since they don’t play C

This is about the position not the talent.

What? Sorry man you’re wrong. Ritchie has been working along the boards against opposition D regularly, has laid out 12 hits, and his plus/minus is still 0 even tho he’s been playing on a line that hasn’t been playing well.

That’s all on top of parking in front of the net.

He’s not the problem, the stars are.

- Dozzer

He's a career bottom six winger doing the "Maple Leaf Special" - being slotted further up the lineup by management than he should be. That little trick is a blue and white tradition!

Spezza no longer plays C

He’s on the wing cause at his age he can’t skate well enough to compete in a center position.

So yes, it will be a winger who can’t play C that gets sat, unless they drop bunting to the 3rd line and have kerfoot play C on the 4th which is extremely unlikely.

There seems to be an injury every few games, I doubt we even have to worry much about guys being taken out of the top 12

Just read an article saying Marner has been good and that he is not producing because of JT and Ritchie.

That he will be fine once Matthews is back and that Bunting should be moved to his wing.

I think Marner has been OK and was much better last night. But the media blaming his line mates is BS.

I’m not a fan of him but I was only trying to pick out good things he did last night. There were some, hoping more on Monday and then we’ll have some options.

I think Dermott > Sandin last night too.

- Garnie

I think that may have been Dermott's best game in a long time.

Having said that, Sandin is such a noticeable presence out there that I think he sticks out like a sore thumb when he makes a poor defensive play but he also looks dynamic and dangerous when in the offensive zone.

Having said that, Sandin also has waivers exemption so he could be a casualty if his play slips.

Maybe…

I wonder if Simmonds comes out before them…they are better.

It was nice to see Offside tap one in last night though.

That line doesn’t need talent tho it needs grit.

Once Matthews is back I’m willing to bet Ritchie gets a bunch of goals banging in rebounds from the super hard Matthews shots

He was slow and garbage the 2nd game, the whole team seemed to have an extra step last night…which it should be every night when you get $150k/game….lucky bastards.

I kind of doubt it. Simmonds isn’t in the lineup due to his talent level, his role on this team is to be the tough guy who doesn’t let the opposition (frank) with the stars on the leafs

Completely agreed.

As long as Ritchie is playing physical and can park himself in front of the net, he should be just fine on the top line.

He was a solid 10th overall pick because he is one of the toughest LW around. Besides that he has an exceptional shot. On the Bruins he was behind Taylor Hall and Brad Marchand on LW - and scored 15 goals playing on a checking line. "Maple Leaf Special" my ass - great signing period.

What I'm saying is that is not enough. He does not have the speed to play with Matthews and Marner on the rush, nor to be first on the forecheck.

Take a look around the league at top lines. You won't find Nick Ritchie types.

But, hey, I guess time will tell, right?

We’ll see his effectiveness once Matthews is back. I think it’s precisely what the line needs tho

Hoping Matthews gets that first line rolling and JT starts playing more like JT when he’s got Nylander on his side.

Look around league wide and you won’t see two top 5 scorers on the top line either

It’s not a typical top line hence why someone like Ritchie can thrive in that roll.

Since when do AM34 and Mitch play a speed, north/south game? They're pure possession players who make plays with nifty skill plays in the oZone.

Ritchie doesn't need to be a speed demon on the top line. He needs to win puck battles in corners and be a big body in front of the net that creates a distraction to the goalie and fits to the d-men.

I don't give a (frank) about other top lines in the league and I'm not going to waste my time trying to refute your claim.

He was bottom six in Boston, even before they acquired Taylor Hall. Boston had ZERO interest in resigning him, too, btw. Wonder why that was? But whatevs. Let's just watch it play out.
