They can trade for Eichel then Tampa can take turns (frank)ing the NHL by alternating them on LTIR. - winsix
I have no sympathy for the NHL and am fine with what Tampa Bay has done.
They pointed out the issues with the cap. They were ignored - so now they are taking advantage of the obvious loopholes.

Hate the game, don't hate the player.
Bettman should have stepped in - he chose to be a weasel. |

It's so wild that this is happening in Toronto - getting tickets to a game at face value was like a sighting of big foot riding a unicorn and now here we are in what most other cities experience as it relates to getting tickets. We have a friend with seasons whom we usually guy 6 or 8 games worth from but passed this year - thank god.
Unrelated but didn't see it posted anywhere here - how can you not just love Soupy?

Judging by how many seats will be empty, I wouldn't recommend buying lower bowl. Get the cheapest seats you can buy, and sit in empty seats after the first period. |

the way it works for season ticket holders is you can only offer them up for resale until 1 hour before puck drop. At 6 pm, they are no longer for sale.
Go back at 5 pm - there will be widespread panic, and guys listing for well under face value. |

Usually I agree with that.
All the moaning of Nylander's was painful after a while....BUT .... this situation is a lot different. When a race car has a flat tire you don't need to worry about where the car will finish in the race. Doesn't mean the performance of the engine wasn't amazing or wouldn't have been amazing, just that it no longer has an effect (affect?) on the outcome.
Leafs have a few flat tires, the collective engine is might almost be (frank)ing awesome but there are a few flat tires and we may never know:
1. Flat Cap/Covid pandemic.
2. 3 FORWARDS making $11m each and not being able to deliver in the playoffs.
3. Dubas, whether he could or not, is stuck with the other two tires AND he can't make any moves that don't risk losing a top tier talent...why...because of flat tire #1. What other team even has Cap to make a 'fair' deal for a top tier talent from the Leafs? The whole league is under a flat cap for a few years.
So there's the pickle.
If the Leafs' are under a flat cap for the next 3 or 4 years, well guess what, they're (frank)ed if they can't win with this kind of a team on the ice....the front loaded roster with an iffy bottom 6, iffy top 4 D and an iffy goalie tandem.
All the pressure and focus is on the big 3. One is getting more flack than the others because he definitely didn't deserve the amount of $ he got and he has been weak in the past 3 playoff series.
Marner's play and Cap hit are definitely fair game ATM. It could retrospectively be one of the very reasons this team does not succeed in the next 3/4 years while losing UFA (Hyman/Andersen) after UFA (Rielly) until finally losing the first and best #1C this team has ever seen to UFA (Auston).
It's the big picture for some. Others, well, they like the 90/100pts in regular season for $10.9m. - Barb34
Sorry but the reaction to Marner’s contract began the second he signed it. He negotiated hardball because the other two didn’t need to.
There was no way management was going to let another Toronto boy free agent slip away. JT was going to get paid and he got paid well essentially to be the 2C. Obviously, not a normal 2C but that was his role. Matthews was going to get more as a genuine league superstar and as the guy ahead of JT and he got paid big time when you consider $ and term.
When it came to Marner’s contract, he had just come off leading the team in points but it sorry, we’re out of money. The fan reaction to his hardball negotiations was that a good Toronto boy should be happy to be playing for his hometown team and take a discount. Since then he, not Matthews has taken the poop for contracts and for every playoff failure. All I hear (in general, not directed at you) is that Auston couldn’t score because he was tired from carrying Marner around.
Dubas gave three elite players elite contracts. We’ve seen how the team can play at times when they are playing their best. None of them have stepped up sufficiently in the playoffs, but it’s all the fault of the one who’s paid the least.

AA is that you?
Somebody (Kipper?) compared Nylander to Kessel. He’s good when he’s secondary guy on the team, no pressure. Kessel couldn’t handle being THE guy here. |

Don't dress like a bum, and act like you belong.
They don't challenge you at all - especially after the first period.
Just pick out a large section of empty seats.
And don't get greedy - don't try to sit in the first 10 rows. |

If they performed up to the level of those contracts, then the results may be different. Unfortunately, only Matthews is close, and in the playoffs none of them is anywhere near the best players in the league. - Aetherial
Matthews led the whole playoffs in shots (and posts) in the 1st round.
Pretty good considering he was dragging around Marner who played like complete ass and Hyman who sucked but at least had a reason for sucking (came back too soon from injury). |
