If the team wants to hire a guy who has no coaching experience, why not hire Marian Hossa? He will demand respect from the guys in the room for sure. Provided he would want to coach. - powerenforcer
Good players don’t always make good coaches.
JC needs to go, he’s had enough time to show what he can, and more importantly cannot, do.
I don’t know who should replace JC, but I don’t think it’s anyone without significant NHL coaching experience. The Hawks cannot afford to take any more chances with their head coach. |

Geez, I’d love to see Keith and Hossa statues along with Kane and Toews. - paulr[/quo
HOME RUN!!! It has to happen that way. Three Stanley Cups and all four were monsters of their craft.

I nominate Edzo. Though he might need to get that Avs tattoo removed. |

The key is to stay away from the guys who start strong then the whole team unravels after a couple of years. The Torts, Hitchcocks etc. |

It’s kind of hard to coach a team when you’re in the fetal position with your thumb in your mouth. |

What about your take on assistant coaches, Darth? Chelios type for D perhaps? Or, is their knowledge not necessarily translatable after being outstanding as players? Seabs was great for the organization, wouldn't doubt for a moment that he might be up for consideration in a few years, if he wants it. Professional as all get out. |

For a guy like Seabrook, or guys like that, he’d need to coach somewhere college, junior before moving into the AHL then NHL. As Darth said After Colliton the hawks have to select the next coach carefully. |

Would one of them, especially those already-retired or soon-to-be retired, do it for the remainder of the year as an interim while the club waits to see who becomes available during the year? Not sure what their motivation would be beyond $$$ and ego ("I can get that team into the playoffs"), but one might be willing. |

Maybe the most obvious choice is already on the bench. Crawford. |

Or, sign 'em for 3 years before going belly up? Wouldn't be the worst move if you were attempting to buy some time. In the interim, maybe an older coach could stress the fundamentals and exercise playing rights matched to individual performance. There is no chief leading the current Blackhawks. |

I didn't come across clear. I meant solely for an assistant coach position. Sorry. Why not bring in proven guys who knew their stuff back in their playing days? In this instance, I personally would not be reluctant to send out some feelers.

True, though, he has to be at least partially responsible for the situation we're in now, right? Although, if you told me he is responsible for the special teams this year, then maybe there's something more to be explored there. |

If he were in charge of the PK last year.....
Wasn't there some kind of scandal attached to him a few years ago? |

Certainly was there, friend. Stood for the games in the 2nd balcony with my college mates. This was right after Hull became a Winnipeg Jet. Prior to him leaving, would have had to mug someone in the streets for some tix.
Watched guys cover the Hawks like Jim West and the great Lloyd Petitt.
Mikita and Hull already have their statues, and so will Toews and Kane.
No one will ever dispute the quality of that 6 team league. Don't know how you could deduce that. Perhaps I should have stated BEST TWO IN RECENT MEMORY.
Sound like a fellow Hawk junkie. No doubt about that. - gabriel
Hull was a freakish athlete for those times. In the mid 70's ABC with Howard Cosell had some sort of competition amongst all the sports athletes on Sat/Sun afternoons. It was like a decathlon. Hull came in 2nd overall and unbelievably 2nd to OJ Simpson in the 100 yard dash even with his short legs and he was over 30 by then. Simpson was a world class sprinter he ran 9.2 in the 100. I think the US track record was 9.1 at the time. I think of Hull as the "Mickey Mantle" of Hockey. |

Yes, re: abuse of his players: kicking them on the bench, slurs, etc.
Given the spotlight on the team right now, very likely they'll not give him the head job for that reason alone. |

Mike Keenan - paulr I don't think Keenan's style has kept up with the "multi line passing rules." The game has changed. The guy is 71 and please stop saying "Crawford" already WTF has he done? If you aren't going to identify a brilliant up and comer of who's left on the scrap heap Torts and Babcock are probably the most qualified. Although I still believe the Hawks forwards are firmly entrenched in the lower third and the defense middle of the pack at best even I can admit JC does not have the team ready. Let's get a 2 for 1 and fire Nagy with him. |

Today is the second of the two day period where they are not playing a game. They had another huge turnover of roster year to year. Being a big team chemistry guy, yesterday and today are two very huge off days for practice, IMHO.
And game starts this year been just plain bad. (I'm afraid to look back at the last two minutes of periods so far this year because I don't think they're super either).
It will be the longest year in recent memory if they do not improve measurably on protecting the house ASAP. |

Ironically their home game Thursdsy is against a coach whom is very big on structure and responsibility. That would be Barry Trotz and the NYI.
Maybe a team like that is what Colliton tells his players "has been successful because of structure. that is, applying what the coach says about responsible play and winning as a byproduct largely due to a sound system.(Believe it)."
A side note: What dman scored a hat trick vs Chicago in a Sunday matinee @Chicago
