Transition game has also helped immensely. I do remember a former member above on the suck squad that was quite possibly the worst transition D Man I’ve ever seen. Speed only works when you can actually catch and make passes. Combo of all most likely. Glad I’m watching actual good hockey

I'm not a fan of retaining on a 5 year contract.
If a team can't find $2M in years 3, 4 5 then their Mgmt sucks ass.
And frankly, taking on a Cap dump now for 1 or 2 years helps them more now in that the Sabres can absorb more thereby giving said team more flexibility now and perhaps next season.From there on, the GM needs to use his 2 year head start effectively, or get fired.

Taking on a Cap dump is the only way to go IMO for the Sabres, especially when they are gunning for the rebuild to turn the quarter in those years 3, 4 and 5.
They will already have Skinner's $9M relatively dead money to overcome ... adding $2m or $3m more is simply crazy talk now and this entire board will regret it during those seasons.
Yes, the Cap will go up, modestly..and so will Salaries for productive players making thos Cap increases a net zero sum game at best.

The kuchorov IR "blueprint" is a perfect fit to circumvent the cap.

As far as Eichel being "Kucheroved", I suspect a deal in the December timeframe fits that timeline better.

I said it after FA, the sweet spot for an Eichel trade has now turned towards next offseason.
HOWEVER, one of Jack or Kevyn needs to cave on the surgery pretty soon for that to occur.

They should be trading for the ghost of Andrew Shaw tomorrow, as it would only cost the Sabres future considerations, which is code for not a damn thing.

I think they could get the 2022 Vegas 3rd round pick that Chicago has for taking Shaw's salary off their books. Even better about Shaw is while his cap hit is $3.9M, he's only owed $2.9M this season. Better still, $1M of that was a signing bonus that was already paid by Chicago, so the Sabres would only be on the hook for $1.9M for his $3.9M cap hit.
