Granato feels that Mitts is ahead of schedule is responding well to treatment, and Joker is like a week behind him in recovery time. Only a guess on my part but we're probably looking at 2-3 weeks for both to return. Maybe a bit less.

A first (their first looks lottery, so yeah) and the third is fine. Then just buy him out. There's one year at 5M in 24-25, otherwise it's a relatively harmless buyout. 1. He isn’t getting the surgery until he’s traded

2. Teams obviously aren’t willing to give up an “excellent” package with him in this condition, if they were the trade would’ve been made and he’d be recovering from surgery

The Sabres aren’t at this point willing to risk allowing him the surgery pre-trade and getting stuck with nothing if he doesn’t recover

They’re going to eventually take a pretty underwhelming return and it’s gonna suck
