I am glad to see most people coming around to the fact that the sneak was the correct call.
I've been waiting my whole life for a coach to have the balls to do that, Allen was 81% in that situation. I'll take the 81% chance over trying a FG on grass where anything can happen, and then being at the mercy of a coinflip, those odds come out to less than 50/50, and then you have to score and hold on top of it. It was 100% the right play. |

Its negotiations 101
We have a top 5 nhl center when healthy
Every national hockey league team wants him , for the right price.
Despite the multiple reports of no retention, I still believe if the right offer (top young center prospect) (byfield) or (dach) the Sabres will retain some $.
Chicago gets a hot start, wants to make a playoff splash with the old core..... welcome aboard kirby - Boss34
Can we retain for lets say just this year and next or does it have to be for the full contract?

Going for it was the right call. The sneak itself wasn't a bad call, but the success is often predicated on the quick snap. If you weren't going to do that, you need to come up with a better play. I suggested an RPO, but I wouldn't have hated a pass there either. Plus, it's a play where even if you get it, you're likely not getting the touchdown. You're at the 1 with 20 seconds left, if that, no timeouts, and basically forced the throw the ball from there.

What? - DirtyDan
He's talking about back in the pre-cap days, you could trade players for cash. I don't think you can do that anymore.

The deal was announced Aug. 9, 1988, 12 weeks after the Oilers closed out a four-game sweep of the Boston Bruins in the Cup Final. Gretzky, McSorley and center Mike Krushelnyski went to the Kings in exchange for center Jimmy Carson, wing Martin Gelinas, first-round draft picks in 1989, 1991 and 1993, and $15 million.
can we just include cash with the trade or was that abolished? |

I would've spread them out and have the Titans have to defend the 1st down and game ending TD.
It would've been damn near impossible to defend both. |

I think "don't want to move" and "untouchable" are the same thing. It's kind of dumb to print it, because of course a team would love to give up nothing and get Eichel for free. Maybe I'm just a pedantic prยกck, probably a little of both. - Wetbandit1
WET1 you are not a pedantic pr'ck, but a very important part of our hockeybuzz community.

I've been told it needs to be every year for the remainder of the contract.
My thoughts, okposA will be off the books,
Unless he plays the next 80 the way he played the past 2.
Also, Skimmer could eventually be moved.
Seems like we have a good farm system finally and could move skimmer with a pick or prospect at some point.
The Sabres have to get a top center in return.
No berglunds.... |

I highly doubt this happens for 4/5 more years. And at that point, who knows what the cap/state of the league will be. |

You could potentially move him in a year or so if you're taking back another contract and paying that team an asset.

F that then. Can't retain more than 3 if its for the rest of the contract.
Can you retain diferent amounts in different years?
Like lets say 4 million for 2 years and then 2 million the final 2?
If im retaining any money though I expect full payment of 1 top notch prospect and 3 first round picks or the equivalent prospects. and not sh!t prospects |

Can't do that, it's the same amount every year up to 50%. And 39 brought it up if we do retain it's like are Salary Cap will be stagnant for atleast 3yrs |

Realistically, this year and the next 2 should keep the Sabres under any cap situations. Year 4 and 5 could get sticky with power / dahlin / mitts / joker coming up.
That's when skimmer would need to go. Probably either way.
Imagine a healthy eichel at 7.5 million for this playoff run and 4 more years....
That would bring in a true #1 center in return.
