Terrific Story - Great post - Colbyboy
Thank you Colbyboy. Sorry for the trip down memory lane but when posts start coming through on The Stadium it brings back all the memories. Yes I was also at the All Star game with all the sparklers on day 1 of Desert Storm and that was incredible. The Banners thanking our TROOPS as being the Real All Stars and that National Anthem will never be duplicated.

There was no better place to watch a hockey game. I've been a season ticket holder since 1964 when I was 10 years old. We had mezzanine tickets that were $3.25 a piece. I'll never forget it. Aisle 13 Section S Row K seats 7-10, right underneath the perch if Foley and Tallon. I remember my dad always saying to me, I sure wish you knew your studies as well as you knew your Blackhawk players.
It was a rockin Old Barn and I was there for Bobby Hull's 50th and 51st and I've never heard anything as loud as those goals.
Just GREAT memories of my childhood with my dad and brother watching those great teams.
Unfortunately, my center ice season tickets in the 100 level are almost $300 each. I'm sure my dad in heaven thinks I'm crazy paying those prices but I feel I'm carrying on the tradition that he started back in 64. It's worth it for that alone. - Hawkytalk
Awesome story, I just watched some of the history of the old stadium on YouTube and they were talking of Hull's 51st goal and they were saying the crowd cheered for ten minutes straight! Mentioned it was ridiculously loud.
Amazing that you were at the game to experience that!

Well of course it's Murphys fault because he sucks passes to a covered guy and then screens the goalie - BetweenTheDots
No it’s not Murphy’s fault.
Instead of looking for the easy mistake look at every thing. Why did McCabe (frank) up? Because he got a pass with his back to an incoming forecheckers.
Why did Murphy make that pass? Because he had only three options. His three options were pass it to the right winger who was skating back into the zone which may have been just as bad. Pass to apressured McCabe. Or chip the puck out and give up possession. So Murphy made a hurried pass to his partner with his back to the play who was being pressured. The real mistake was the forwards didn’t properly support the defensemen.
The correct play in this case would have been to just chip the puck out.
The correct play would have been to have two or three options to make a short pass to an OPEN forward.
But at a glance McCabe becomes the Goat when in fact it was the forwards who didn’t support the defenseman. |

Shocked you saying it's the forwards fault, when Murphy has the puck on his stick, not really
If you haven't figured it out yet JC had these forwards flying up ice every chance they get |

Coaching. Forwards responsible. Will cost Colliton his job. And deserving so if he cannot get better cooperation
About S Jones: if he plays a lot then eventually I bet his performance will get better and better. Remember he is capable. He just has to get to that level. You know, a descent 2nd pair whom knocks players down most important for this defense. Well, makes less blunders too. |

With all the discussion earlier about how Sutter was better than Gaudette, reminded me I saw this a few days ago:
https://twitter.com/CityN.../1447785517542686725?s=20
The outbreak that Gaudette was blamed for starting has had long-lasting impact (sounds similar to Toews' issues). Really sad and scary reminder that we really don't understand the long-term effects of this beast.
@imacSportsnet
For clarity on Brandon Sutter and long-haul COVID symptoms, the Canuck trained with few problems for most of the off-season. It was around mid-August when fatigue started to become debilitating. |

Wiedeman doing pretty well in his debut
I can actually multitask and still visualize everything going on in the game - pdx2ord
Those of us in the Chicago area have had the pleasure of listening to Wiedeman on the radio for years. He’s top notch and he’s my pick to take the TV spot. |

Most other breakouts tonight have been done correctly so that disputes the assertion the forwards are coached to blow the zone.

I agree - when I couldn't watch, I'd always listen, even after I moved back to the West Coast. |

The stadium was one of the greatest venues for hockey. Had season tix's for 15 years. Sat in second balcony. There were fights on and off the ice especially on Sunday nights after a Bears home game. Oh, and that wasn't water on the bathroom floors! - bjphawkfan
The old stadium was the hockey equivalent of a basement fight club. Old, dirty, cramped… but awesome. |

If you say so, if forwards think the dman has possession they go, hell most of the time the other dman does, that's why McCabe was almost out of the zone. |

Don’t take my word for it. Go back and look at tonight’s goal.

At this point in time Wiedeman is better than Foley and has been for a few years.

I think it was Gary Suter that they followed up the stairs during one of the playoffs with a camera and it was shocking how tiny and steep the stairs were. - SchwiftyHawk
Those stairs were no fun with skates on, especially for the goalies cuz they couldn't turn sideways very well. With todays equipment there's no way they could do those stairs. And just a little bitty handrail as well.
One night Belfour gets yanked, goes down those stairs, and breaks every light bulb and everything he could reach on the way to the room. It's amazing he didn't fall down the stairs mid poop fit. |

Yeah, even with the timing delay - there are many times I’d turn off the TV volume and put on the radio feed. Foley has been past his expiration date for a while now. Wiedeman is bringing out a better color call from Eddie too. |

Best Hawks so far tonight(IMHO), not necessarily in order, Dcat, Dach, and Kubalik. I sure would like to see Kubalik signed. |

Another point blank chance with Murphy lost in space |
