How about the one where it is late in year 4, he doesn't appear to want to sign an extension and he has a no trade in year-5.

The Leafiest thing that can happen is they let him walk for nothing.

This is exactly what is going to happen.

- Aetherial

The Leafs aren't even going to begin negotiating with him about an extension until after Year 4 is completed so I don't see this scenario as likely.

They didn't trade Rielly this summer when they had the chance and now they're probably going to let him walk.

I think it's one of those "rock and a hard place" situations. You can't replace the guy and not weaken your team significantly but you may not be able to - or want to - re-sign him when he's about to go UFA.

All I know is that the Leafs better be lax in their pre-game clothing situation like ARZ or fashionista AM34 may actually not re-sign when the time comes, amirite/amirov?

All Josh Anderson does is flop around like a fish out of water and whine and complain at the refs. Very burlingtonesque

If you were a fish in Hamilton Harbour, wouldn't you flop out of the water too?

Considering how great he played the rest of the game that was a "wtf?" moment to be sure.
- mjones242

He has to have some sort of mental block.

Keefe was asked about him a year ago and he said he constantly needs motivation to play well.

Geez I hope not. I think that they have to trade him before that no trade clause kicks in.

I was responding to Atherial’s premise that he doesn’t want to re-sign at the end of year 4.

Hamilton Harbour represents above 10% of waterfront. The rest is the pristine waters of Lake Ontario

exactly

Of course is he wants to re-sign then you see if it can be done.

I don't think you take the chance of going to that last year without an extension.

But, Leafs will be Leafy, so I think he leaves for nothing.

I really can't get behind the argument that Auston would want to leave Toronto. He was drafted here, it's been home for years. He can basically call his contract number, he can pick up endorsement cash and throw it around all he wants. The guys partying with Beiber and its not cause he plays hockey in a desert.

The flip side of the argument is that he would obviously want to leave because he's American, and from a place where people don't recognize him walking down the street so he's going to want to leave everything he has to play for a team that's a (frank)ing reliable disaster, has problems paying their bottom tier staff and literally don't even have an arena to skate in a year from now.

I can't get behind it.

But then I realize it's all moot anyways. Auston is 23... What 23 year old in the history of humans has decided what they're going to do in 3 years for a fact and won't be influenced a million different ways between now and then? How could we know what he wants when he more than likely doesn't even know himself and even if he did will more than likely change his mind many times over between now and then? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Tavares was pushing 30, home was one of the biggest hockey markets on earth and he still couldn't decide to do it until the day it happened.
