I hate the rule, but I have to agree with this ^^:

Ultimately, the puck didn't have enough inertia to enter the net on it's own without a kick from the player.

It's dumb af.

Back in the 70s when the world was better because parents were beating their children and toys were designed to cause permanent injury, I swear if the puck went off a skate it wasn't a goal. I think this was changed in the mid-90s. I'm still not even sure they should have changed it then. The game is played with a hockey stick for a reason. That said, other sports (like Lacrosse) do allow kicking. I could just be old and cranky.

I remember playing a championship game where the winning goal bounced off a lawn dart.

I still remember the happy car ride home, as we jumped around in the backseat, not wearing seatbelts.

You’re misreading that.

If it meant what you think it wouldn’t say “cause to move” it would say “redirect”.

“Cause to move” means it wasn’t moving in the first place.

- Dozzer

You're only taking part of it, not the full thing. "in a particular direction" is key to it. Cause to move in a particular direction. I understand what you're saying, but it's still right.

He absolutely propelled it. Things don't need to be at a stand still to be propelled. It was going in one straight, distinct direction. He kicked it and propelled it in a completely different direction.

That fits both criteria. There was distinct kicking motion and he propelled it into the net.

Yep.
- fifty__missions

Nope.

That’s not how contracts work, they go off cap percentage.

Mcdavid signed his deal when the cap was near 5M less than when Matthews signed his.

Mcdavids 12.5 M contract turns to 13.3M the year later for percentage of the cap.

13.3M was the Mcdavid comparable for Matthews.

With Matthews it's not the money. It's the five year term. He absolutely took Dubas to the woodshed.
- fifty__missions

Once JT was signed to be the #2 centre, Matthews was going to get more - either in money or in a shorter contract.

It’s not about the cap number, it’s cap percentage.

The last few years it’s been irrelevant due to the flat cap, but this is how it works.

If not we’d still be getting 8M has the massive cap number like in the late 2000s.

Well . . .if that was the 70's, you probably had drunk refs smoking and playing lawn darts at centre ice and penalizing kids for wearing helmets.

Kids these days will never understand the appreciation you get for being alive. Every. Single. Day. We used to run across roof tops in Kitchener when I was 8. No one cared about THAT - they cared that we were trespassing.

I’ll bet you that does. Easy bet for you, obviously

Friendly wager, of course.

music is subjective, but hockey players in general have pretty awful taste in music, and I can't understand why.

Does anyone have awful taste in music? Music is pretty simple, its noise and your brain responses positively or negatively to it. Everyone is different.

Yeah, it's crazy. I don't overly care for trashing peoples taste in tunes, but man it's so (frank)ing bad.

Propelling is what causes the energy for speed (think of a propeller on a plane). All he did was redirect it.

I’m sorry but you’re misreading the definition.

EDIT: please remember I hate how loose the rule is as well lol

Luckily not really. Just when they were 5-7. Then we got them into gymnastics.

It's still correct.

Which is why I've said that the rule needs to be changed. Or worded differently if they want what happened yesterday to be good. Because according to the current rule, it shouldn't count.

I hate a kicked in goal counting in general, but if the NHL wants it to count, which they clearly do, then fix the rule so there's no debate. Of this, I know we can agree on.

Think we're gonna need it written in old Shakespearean, just so there can be more confusion and debates going forward.

“Using one’s foot tis acceptable so long as the competitor is viewing a puck travelling in haste, it is miserable and punishable if not and it makes the use of the foot a waste”

That work for you?
