Whatever, Minivan will always defend the Manitoban. I think people forget how bad Hamonic was at times last season. He had maybe 10 good games of a 38 game sample size. Now we're anointing him top 4 without training camp.

Yet I'm the one taking crazy pills....go figure.

Some people think they are gods gift to hockey analyses, this guy is just another one that believes his take is the only take.

Hamonic is not a top 4 D, if he was he would have been picked up in waivers.

There was another guy in here arguing the same thing with me. I guess there's a lot of guys who must hold their own opinions a bit higher.

It's a good thing I'm one of them so when the stupid comments come in like yours, I can just easily ignore them.

That is probably by far the worst part about his game.

absolutely not directed at you or Vantel, but since when do we benchmark what a Dman should or shouldn't make based off of points.

McAvoy is one of the best 5v5 defenders in the league. He makes the same as Seth Jones, is 3 years younger, and is 100x better. Not only is he a top pairing Dman at 5v5, but hes also first unit PP, gets shots through consistently, and is only getting better.

I dunno, considering what other Dmen got paid this off season, I would take Makar/McAvoy at their new contracts than Heiskanen/Hughes/Werenski/Jones/Pelech/Pulock/Hamilton at theirs.

I always thought that McAvoy was good, I watched a few more than I wish I did Bruins games last couple years.

It's the consistency of his ability to play well against other teams top lines nightly and the other little things he does. He doesn't hit a lot but when he does, it's timely and the other team always takes notice.

My comment was more aimed at the flat cap and not the player. Teams just cant keep giving out 8 mil plus contracts.

Hughes is a Dman who was recently signed on point production alone.

The whole team was bad last season, that pairing with Hughes got better as the season went on IMO.

Who's saying he's going to jaunt right in and take a place immediately? Lol. The weakest link in that top 4 is Myers. Moving him out and replacing him with someone better would make the team much more complete. I was going to put in Colin Miller's name, but didn't – someone like that in a trade would be a nice upgrade, both on personnel and cap

You went down the path of Myers being a better overall defender than Hamonic, where statistically and with the eye test Myers is not the better defender.

I'd sooner sign a elite defenseman based on his two-way play, than a elite defenseman based just on his offense. That's why I think Makar and McAvoy were the two best contracts given this off season. Followed by pelech, pulock, Hamilton, weresnki, than Hughes and ekholm , and by an extremely large gap, Jones (will end up being the worst contract I'm the league before this season ends and his contract even begins)

not an argument at all, and i don't get the stupid comment part either.

i stated some guys think they are the be all to end all of hockey knowledge with your comments being in that category.

but carry on telling everyone "oh how smart you are" and how everyone else is wrong.

I'm told that I have to be nicer to others peoples hockey knowledge.

Plus that Jones contract is already lining up with his stats from last season.

I suppose it comes down to who eyes are doing the test and who is analyzing the stats. What their tastes are in a defender.

Let's set this straight here though. I actually went down that path because you initiated it with your previous comment.

Need Myers as he's the tallest guy to starfish around on the ice? Having Hamonic and OEL would be a much better defensive unit than with Myers.
- NewYorkNuck

This hypothetical places him in our top pairing.

I'll eventually have to watch a game to see how good or bad they play, I watched only 2 preseason games that were shit and didn't watch the game on Wed. Maybe early games is the way to get in to the season for me, hockey just doesn't entertain me the way it used to, maybe that happens after watching 15 years of drop passes on the PP.

You just have to go to the local pub and get into it that way, or get some people over and cook. That is the best way to keep entertained while all the ads are on, and you don't feel so guilty cracking the next beer....is it the friends....is it the crappy game...who can say! you're just thirsty....

I don't drink and I have zero tolerance for drunk people, a friend dropped by on Wed. and we both decided we'd rather watch rugby.

Yes, I clearly started the whole Myers is bad thing, just didn't push it to the extreme that you did For me, I'd rather have a more solid defenseman next to OEL than Myers, especially for playing against tougher opponents... the problem with the Canucks is that Myers needs a defensive partner, and the Canucks LHD are all more dynamic offensively than him (Rathbone showing more promise at least).

Tyler Myers third pair with a defensive RHD beside him would be fine. Just doesn't really work with the way the left side is.
