The Bruins re-sign d-man Charlie McAvoy to an 8 year $9.5 millions AAV deal.
Now thats the type of d-man a team should give a long-term high value deal, unlike Stan with Jones. |

The league is not interested in protecting guys, period. Anyone who thinks that is ignorant. It will take a death on the ice for anything to change. - powerenforcer
While there has been significant changes for the good I think you’re right, unfortunately if/when a death occurs I think it will be during a fight.
There’s a real easy way to stop the violent plays. Instead of evaluating each play and assigning a suspension or fine, which usually means the star players don’t get properly punished, set a universal suspension. Example: boarding, first offence three games, if there’s an injury twenty games, plus fine the team $1M, second offence 10, 40 and $5M and so forth. The suspensions will give players incentive to stop and the fines will give ownership incentive to make sure it stops. |

Fining the team is…uhhh…fine.
But in addition, during the suspension - no replacement for the on-ice roster - they have to skate with 17 players for the duration.
That will get the coaches on board with the safety issues. That’s where the change will come. |

did you know that Columbus was SO excited to NOT have Jones on their team last night that they waxed their opponent 8-2? Sure it had nothing to do with losing their teammate over the summer and playing for him....or opening night.....NOPE....ALL about removing Seth Jones.
I love this board. |

You are not alone Rain.
Anyone else remember the year that the Hawks smoked Pitt 10-1 on opening night and continued to end up last in the division (Pitt made the playoffs that year by the way). Good times. It was 2017-2018 for you history buffs. |

Simmer big dog. First, is Det willing to trade Leddy? If Leddy is held in high regard, why would they take our collection of garbage for him (a dead contract and an offensive center who can't crack the Blackhawks lineup and is a stretch to crack theirs)? What else would be need to be added in order for Det to be interested? Everyone here is up in arms at the Brinks truck that Stan sent to CBUS for Jones.
Is Leddy a notable upgrade over de Haan, Murphy or McCabe? Maybe, in certain ways. Is he going to help fix what ails this team? I doubt it. - Chunk
IMO Detroit picked up Leddy to flip at the TDL. He might get the Wings a decent prospect or high pick depending on the market.

I'd also like the suspension to exceed the number of games levied if the other player is injured and not able to play after the stated number of games suspended. Up to and including forever if the injured player never plays again.
Edit: and the cap hit stays until the culprit's contract ends. |

Yeah had Dach been injured I think it would have been longer than 2 games. |

Does a player lose salary if suspended? Honestly don't know. If not make that part of the process. A lot of great ideas posted about fines, suspensions etc to cut back on the meatballing, but they have to be negotiated with the Player's Association and put into the CBA. |

I have been saying that in a way too. It's not the player, it's the offense. It shouldn't matter if it is the first time or not, a knee to knee is worthy of X amount of games. Boarding is worth X amount of games. So on and so on.

It also starts with the referee's. Why wasn't a 5 minute major called? Because of the time of the game? Because it was Colorado's captain? If a player of less" importance" to the team, or to the league (attendance, bad look if a Captain does itor arguments sake that Carpenter did it.) It is fine that there is "supplemental" discipline, but what happens if the player appeals because at the time of incident it was considered a "minor" penalty. Also does intent go into it? "It was an accident", he was falling, that is why I got his head. You know the Union will always back the player. the league has no interest in seeing marketable players sitting on the sidelines.

New blog! A brief look at the Blackhawks chance to rebound vs the Devils after losing the first game of the season vs the Avalanche.
Plus, thoughts on Kirby Dach, Alex DeBrincat, Andrew Shaw, Alec Regula, and the IceHogs season opener, final roster, and projected starting lineup.

We should have kept him. Should have never acquired Jones, Fleury, McCabe and also told Toews to retire. We need to play Galvas, Beaudin, Mitchell all in the NHL ASAP. We need more Tyler Johnson types… |
