From Elite Prospects on MacEwen:
Sounds like exactly what this lineup needs. I don't think he has been given much of a chance in Vancouver based on his number of games and average minutes. I think he could be a diamond in the rough for the Flyers. I'm interested in seeing, if he earns more ice time from AV, how he does. - jd250
He's a 4th line player.

How are they even comparables? BK hasn't broken 50 pts yet. Marner was coming off a 97 pt season. Nylander 61 pt season. - Tomahawk
Entry level deals going long term to high dollar. A lot of gms were not happy after the three kids in Toronto got the deals they did. |

Not comparing the players at all. TML was the first team to give out bigger AAV contracts to young players. Not saying it would not have happened anyway just saying the Leafs take the blame for it.

In Boston, they are talking about extending Charlie MacAvoy for 8 year and between $9-$10M per, I say, go for it Bruins! - jd250
Ugh ruining my pipe dream lol
I just got over covid and just wanted to feel good again for a second lol |

Would depend on how the other centers perform to start the season imo. Then how long is Hayes really out for? As someone said not sure they can make the money work. - hello it's me 2050
I could see that. Imo we only have two comparable contracts. Don’t think we will was just curious as we all know the holes yet. |

If they get off to a slow start and the centers are an issue I have no doubt the GM will do something as he left himself no choice. Whether that something is good or bad we shall see. |

Toews and Kane both had bridge deals before hitting 10 mil. And won a cup. I could see matthews and ov debate. Marner isn’t Crosby. Crosby and malkin both saw a final before getting theirs. Ov was blowing the league up. So can see why matthews got paid.
Only player who didn’t win a cup young was ovie. But no better sniper ever. |

Not saying it's right. I am saying that is the perception.
Also, I do not think Marner or Nylander or most of the countless other young players that have received long term, big dollar contracts since are in the same group as the five you listed.
Toews & Kane each got $6.3mil on there second contract.
Crsoby signed a 12 year deal worth $8.7 per for his second contract. Malkin got 5 years $8.7 on his second contract.
Ovi signed a 13 year deal for his second contract.
Little different landscape in terms of the cap.

Toews and Kane's deals weren't bridge. Both of their deals were 11% of the cap then. The deal Tkatchuk just signed is 10% of the cap.
Crosby and OV got MONSTER deals coming off their ELCs. Crosby was almost 18% of the cap. OV was 19% of the cap.
Malkin 15%. Stamkos 12%. Kessel 10%. Backstrom 11%. Doughty 11%. Etc.
Guys have been getting paid on their 2nd deals for over a decade now. Happened long before Marner and Nylander were even drafted. |

I know right. Maybe the players should start wearing the trainers around their bodies like pads so they don't get any contact injuries on the ice.
Ill write the leagues to see if that is a possibility.

some of the players mentioned though are easy franchise players. some of the new kids getting them are not. but just my opinion. Guess they all have one thing in common...they were bottom feeders and got a franchise player. i viewed the others mentioned as the deals made before the new rules went into effect. the percentages of the cap are interesting. back then as well the cap was rising quick, similar to when the new kids were signed. now it seems like more young players are holding out though. |

Yeah. Wow. 8 mil average. I know he’s been decent but that’s paying a guy now for what you hope he’ll be. |
