Trade who? Which forward would you give up in order to bring up Liljegren and another league minimum forward?
- Dozzer

Going back to $80K cap room is not sustainable. Which forward would depend on how the next 8 weeks go.

At least we don’t have a shortage of guys making $11m I can plug in to his spot. 🤣

Hello Mr Tavares welcome to teams South Kariya and North Kariya.

Sigh.

Bettman works for the owners. The owners tell him what to do, and he implements it.

The salary cap was brought on by Jeremy Jacobs and Ed Snider.

- Atomic Wedgie

Two owners.
We now have 32?
Im sure you could get 17 that want to move away from a soft cap only system

Not everywhere. Leafs would sell out every game regardless of opponent, NYR, Vancouver, Boston and Philly same IMO.

A team like Arizona, Columbus or even the Panthers couldn't even afford to make the Cap Floor if they were not being subsidized by the wealthy teams.

- winsix

Yup, exactly. Hence why there’s a standard cap ceiling that everyone must follow. It helps spread the talent out league wide which in turn draws more fans to the smaller markets where hockey isn’t as popular.

Or they’ll simply keep moving the waiver clear guys back and forth

Ya I could see a minor trade.
80k cap space is not something they really work with long term.

Yeah so I’ll the poorer teams never get to sign superstars, ruining their competitiveness and ticket sales.

The NHL will never be able to pull this off until all the teams are hugely popular

Which forward would get traded?

Can’t be Mikheyev due to him coming back from injury so it has to be someone else making roughly the same money.

I honestly won’t be shocked if they just flip the waiver free guys back and forth as necessary

(frank) the smaller markets, Tampa won the cup and lost money. With a cup win in Leafland, Matthews jersey sales would mean more revenue than what the Lightning bring in. Tampa can't sell out a game for the NHL finals, yet they are using money from other teams to fund their payroll. Its a ridiculous system.

Want to go back to a 20 team league then?

Also btw, TB before the covid lockouts sold out every game backing up to 2014-15, just looked it up

Entering the 2018-19 regular season, AMALIE Arena, which seats 19,092 for Lightning hockey, has sold out 158 consecutive regular season and playoff games, dating back to 2014-15.

Concerning moment for the Leafs at practice: Mitch Marner forced to depart not long after a collision with Wayne Simmonds.

Keefe: Marner taken out for precautionary reasons. He’ll be evaluated (by Max) in the morning.

"DO NOT MOCK OTHER GUYS' PREDICTIONS IN THIS THREAD!"

Is it alright to mock the last one in this thread? Because it deserves it.

Tampa lost $8.3 million last season as they won the cup. According to Forbes, the franchise is worth $430 Million. Thats over $200 Million less than what the Kraken just paid for a team. The average ticket price is $64. Using the term sell out when you offer family deals of 4 tickets, a full meal and parking for under $200 is using the term loosely at the very least.

Forbes wrote an article in late 1997 calling the Lightning a financial nightmare, with a debt equal to 236% of its value, the highest of any major North American sports franchise. Even though the Ice Palace was built for hockey and the Lightning were the only major tenant, Forbes called the team's deal with the arena a lemon since it would not result in much revenue for 30 years. It was also behind on paying state sales taxes and federal payroll taxes.[13]

Tampa is a terrible sports city that cannot appreciate excellent teams. The baseball team is one of the favorites to win the world series yet they announce that they will be playing half their seasons moving forward in Montreal
