That is some big coin for someone who's only played two seasons in the NHL and has never cracked 42pts. Yes, last year he was on pace for 60pts.....but almost 8m per for one season of that?
Jesus.
This contract is helping the marner contract look reasonable.

However, if he has couple of 70 plus point seasons, then it should be ok.
We'll see.

I think it's more than his points total last year.

Suzuki is a player that's both great offensively and defensively, he's by far the best centre on the team and keeps raising his level of play during the playoffs.

I don't think he'll ever become a 90 points player, but 70-75 points is far from impossible on the short term, which would make his deal a bargain in my book.

We'll see but I like it. So far, the reactions from fans in Montreal looks pretty positive as well.

Nobody seemed to make that argument when it was Kucherov.

In the past 20 years why would we hate the habs anymore? They've been completely meh for that time...pretty much same with the leafs. For a while it was two crappy teams playing eachother. There really hasnt been much of a rivalry for a very long time except for what fantasies the media force down our throat when do play.
There is way more a rivalry between Toronto sports and Boston sports and the bruins have had loads of success, often at the expense of leafs as well. Boston always seems to get their man whether it be via trade or FA, while the habs...not too many people want to play there, no real big FA's sign there, once in a while they pull off a big trade. But overall, they're just meh. There really isnt much of rivalry in my opinion with them, its just seems out of habit.
I mean they can gft, but to me they are just meh.

Because every Habs@Leafs games, there's a ton of Habs fans in the stands.

The atmosphere is different for a Habs@Leafs game - it's much more energetic.

Forgot he was center, was thinking he was a winger. Still pretty high but its not my money. So all good.
The deal would be a bargain if he got 90pts, if he gets 70 - 75pts....that its a fair deal.

Ya I've been to a couple of those games both in Toronto and Montreal. Sure they're fun, but there are plenty of Boston fans in the arena as well why they are in town....depending on the night.
Either way, the habs "rivalry" has been pretty overhyped the past several decades. Maybe the leafs recent choke job against them may renew an actual rivalry, specially if we see them in the playoffs again. We'll see.

No Liljegren is the 7th. He might get a couple games in the next couple months but I’m pretty sure they’re keeping him up there to keep Dermott from thinking there’s no risk at losing his spot so he plays better.

Hearing NYR have given Vitali Kravtsov permission to contact other clubs in seek of a trade. Kravtsov did not make the Opening Day roster.

So 21 years old, never played a full season in NA and wants out because he didn't bump Kreider or Kakko out of the top 6?

I'd stay away unless he's for free.

He’s not going to sit for a couple of months. If he can slide back between the Marlies, fine but he’s got to get into games. I think we’ll see a little more regular rotation with Dermott.

When the team has offered that the player and agent can contact other teams for a trade, they're probably pretty confident in their decision.

Wishful thinking. What I’ve read being reported it would be about half a dozen games in two months unless someone is hurt.

Remember the leafs consider themselves contenders, which means rookie development takes the back seat. Therefore the idea of playing two rookies on defence pairing 3 a lot isn’t all that likely.

I'm reading some of the responses and there's quite a few Rangers fans that are saying he basically wasn't even given a shot in camp to make the team.

I'd take a chance on him, but that might just be because I still like him.

I think it makes the idea of playing two rookies more likely. It would make sense to have Lilligren in a position where he can step in and play if necessary in the playoffs. If there was a huge gap between him and Dermott, I could see sitting him but there’s not really a lot more to Dermott and potentially more upside to Lilli. If someone goes down late in the year and he hasn’t played, they’re (frank)ed. (He was also 6th D at practice yesterday while Dermott was 7th)

With the cap gymnastics going today, it’s a great reminder how bad the salary cap is for players and the game in general. There is no reason we can’t have a soft cap, luxury tax and meaningful revenue sharing. This is the system that makes sense for everyone, even the owners.

You’re hoping for them to use him a bit too much.

If Mikheyev hadn’t gotten hurt both him and Amadio would have been sent to the Marlies. Liljegren will be sent down once Mikheyev is back unless there has been another injury. The leafs don’t have the cap space to keep him up at that point.

Hopefully they’re just being super cautious, that would suck if they were missing both him and Matthews tomorrow

I’m not really hoping for anything. They’re not going to play a full year with 6 D. Let’s see what happens over the next 8 weeks.
