He’s a bigger D than I thought. Another Rightie is a good thing too.

I do remember some of us here wanting to draft him, so there is that. I'm excited that the Joe Levi saga has come to a close and we can move on. Hopefully the 2 players we got can contribute more singly or together for the Canucks, than Joe has to this point. And the drama of a top 5 miss, wanting Sergachev or Tkchuck instead, and the death race bag skate, comes to an end.

I will never forget that bag skate. That is George Carlin material.

and to think he knew all summer it was coming AND that a spot on the roster was available. if he was completely healthy (and no reports that he wasn't or had lingering affects of covid), his initial training camp performance showed a lack of heart (on top of the lack of conditioning.)

Should have listened to Salo way back when he said this kid may have problems.

Imo injuries severely set back OJ. His turns looked awkward & willingness to skate up ice wasn’t there.

I don't know much about him either, heard lots of talk here way back when.

Or that no one claims him but he still refuses to report to camp, thus allowing for the termination of his contract.

There's been concerns about Juolevi since before he was drafted. He's never been a good skater and his ability to pivot and defend the rush were always huge concerns. He's intelligent and a good passer but he was never a 5th overall caliber player.

but I'd rather not give Benning something else to fuck up.

I get the feeling FA has told Benning to get rid of his mistakes.

Here's a good piece on the trade from the Florida perspective.

They coveted Juolevi because another former Canucks prospect, Kevin Connauton, was injured in their final preseason game on Saturday. And the writer is quite high on Lammikko. Not much to say about Juulsen.

I think everyone in BC was flabbergasted when he selected him. I think everyone thought Tkachuk was going to be picked.

Yes I must agree. At the time JB seemed bent on a D man. Say we did take Tkachuk we’d be facing tough cap decisions. Probably necessitate a trade of a core player. That would’ve been interesting on who for what.

I’d think Juulsen was a throw in given RHD depth needs.

I don't see OJ being much more than a 7th D or AHL replacement on Florida, that article basically said as much that he was only replacing Connauton for the time he was going to be away. Lammikko might be the wild card in this deal, as he's not cleared and the team might keep him up since the status of Motte and Sutter is up in the air with no timeline for return. Could have a chance to impress and if he does, might make losing Gadj a bit more palatable (not that I expect Gadj to do much of anything in SJ either).

Hindsight is always better than foresight, IIRC, we wanted Dubois who got picked by CBJ and I believe Benning got caught a bit flatfooted because of it. I believe he said afterwards that OJ was his second choice with Tkachuk third and Sergachev after. He mostly picked OJ because it was thought that OJ was closer to being NHL ready than Tkachuck or Sergachev and at the time the Sedins were still a year or two from retirement and they wanted someone who could give them one more shot at a Cup (we all know how hopeless that idea was)

Wouldn’t bother me now that JB has put together some good pieces. If MG learned anything last time around about the draft is essential it could be an option. Still need a real Pres & he could start there & also advise JB & if JB or TG need replacing then so be it.
