Ritchie 3rd star is a joke. He did not look great tonight. Still think he might be what Marner and Mathews need as a line mate though.
Engvall has been impressive the last 2 games. Should be a good 3rd line great 4th line player.
Kase could be the 5th best forward if he stays healthy. Most certainly a top 6. Should be an excellent 3rd line player who contributes on special teams.
Kerfoot is a tempting trade candidate, but I think we may need to play him 3rd line in case injuries require him to be 2nd line center.
Sandin needs to play, but will look great sometimes and a tire fire at others. Needs to improve his decisions when/ability to deal with the forecheck bearing in on him.
I think Kase, Ritchie Bunting will serve us better than Thornton, Galcheynyuk and Vesey(was he last year?). Maybe enough to make up losing Hyman.
Simmons should be the 13th forward but will probably be 4th line to open the year.

Pretty much how I'd look at it. Kase looks like he's more skilled than Galchenyuk - but Galchenyuk is healthier, so . . . there's that constant concern. Ritchie will add what we're missing - he's slower and not the brightest, but he'll be in the right places and use his large frame to do what we need. Bunting is the only one I'd be concerned with. There are games where he seems physical, positionally sound and engaged and looks good and there are games where he's looked like an AHL player - which may be true of a 26 year old guy with 26 NHL games still growing into the NHL.

Mikheyev out "long term". I guess it solves our immediate cap concerns, but it sucks. |

So did I. But Spezza could take draws and Engvall play center.
Maybe Brooks instead of Simmons? |

All indications are Kampf was brought in to be shutdown 3c. So cannot see him or Kerfootas 4c.
Definitely som options though.

Spezza was playing centre tonight with Engvall and Simmonds on the wings. They don’t want Engvall playing C. |

Starting to beat a dead horse here but that Sandin/Dermott pairing is going to be an issue... - joel878
Ya it doesn’t look great. It’s not alarming but maybe the Leafs could dump some salary somewhere (not sure of which player and Cap hits and all the numbers) and scoop Moore off waivers. At least a solid NHL caliber bottom pairing for Sandin/Liligren/Dermott (whoever is rolling better for you guys at the time).
If Kerfoot isn’t going to be used in a Top 6 and it doesn’t look like it - trade for cheaper depth also option I suppose.
Trade one of Dermott/Engvall for picks? |

Spezz maybe better at faceoffs, I doubt they want Spezza being C after the puck drops.
Plus Engvall shouldn’t be on the 4th line from what I saw in the 2nd 3rd.

Engvall isn’t that good. I don’t know why you overrate him so much. There are reasons why Keefe doesn’t play him much.
He’s big, but does nothing with it. He has some skill, but terrible decision making. He’s not as good defensively as some think. He’ll have a great game one night, followed by 3 bad ones.
He’s an okay bottom-6 winger. |

Let's get this season over with, so Leafs can finally fire Dubas, Shanahan and Keefe.
Least exciting Leafs season in last 10-15 years - we already know it will be another first round exit.
Good luck to you all. See you for 2022-2023 season.
