I do like the snarl Friedman brings. He's pretty fearless. Whether or not he can string together a long period of solid play is another story.

Agree, and same can be said of Ruhwedel. We're about to find out though.

Honestly never heard of him. Is he any good?

I doubt the Pens claim anyone.

Hovers around a PPG in the AHL, so that should translate into bottom 6 production.

I have confidence in Ruhwedel and aside from the fact Ceci worked out last year, I was fine under the assumption Ruhwedel would have been the 3rd pairing dman, but yeah, we do need to see how he lasts over a long period of time.

If they can rotate Freidman and Ruhwedel it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

I know you and many others have confidence in Ruhwedel.

Many people also had confidence in Jarry last year

I require proof.

Maybe they'll be fine, maybe not.

In the 19/20 season he played 41 games and had the following numbers:
CF% 49.12
FF% 49.63
SF% 49.4
GF% 51.28
xGF% 49.35

Over the course of the 17/18 season to 19/20 season (103 games) he had the following:
CF% 51.55
FF% 52.30
SF% 51.31
GF% 56.78
xGF% 52.65

Last year (17 games) he was over 53% in all of those the categories. Looking deeper into last season it appears everyone pairing he was part of was well above 50%, some in the upper part of the 50 percentile, and he played both the right and left side.

After six games against the three weakest teams in the East. Our top prospects are: 27 year old forward Dominic Simon and 31 year old defenseman Chad Ruhwedel.

I'm glad I own stock in Miller.

Well it’s because he doesn’t actually watch the games and doesn’t realize Boyle is the softest 6’6” guy to ever play in the NHL.
- Feds91Stammer

I’ve always thought Boyle was a giant wuss, but right now he’s the best hockey player at the pens disposal to play 4c.

It feels unnecessary. Much as people want Blueger on a more offensive line, it's clearly not happening. He's the shutdown center.

They should be trying to get some offense from the other bottom 6 line, and ERod makes more sense as the fill in once Crosby is back to play with guys like O'Connor or Heinen.

I'd feel different if I thought Boyle could still play or Blueger playing in a more offensive spot and Boyle as the shut down guy was an option they'd consider.

Hopefully Sullivan has a plan B, because we aren't going to be the second highest scoring team this season. Not even close.

He hit him good. Made no effort to avoid him. I had no problem with what Freidman did. Would have preferred somebody beat the sh!t out of him, but....
- madmike71

With the way the league is trending. Praising players like Marchand, Wilson and Kucherov I’d rather someone just purposely spear them. Dishonest players don’t deserve and honest fight.

Sullivan will make 4 lines and stick too them into a 10 game hole. Then his plan B will be to play Simon with Sid.

He'll have to be the guy who eats more minutes when the inevitable Letang injury hits as well.

There's some positive and negative though more positive in what you posted. I'm curious to see how that battle plays out. Personally I'm hoping for Friedman eventually who I think can move the puck better and has a little nasty streak. Ruhwedel at best is a vanilla guy in his early 30s who just takes care of his job acceptably.

But I'm willing to let it play out and just hope the best man wins and we aren't looking for a RHD at the deadline.

Per Pensburgh, sounds like a deal is likely to be done with Brian Boyle by tomorrow.

Vanilla isn't always bad. Vanilla is probably what you want when paired with Matheson. Plus, he doesn't get enough credit, but Ruhwedel does have some physicality to him. He's not a big buy, but he's strong and outmuscles players more than people realize.

It may not sound ideal, but if Friedman is also able to play solid, being able to rotate him and Ruhwedel may not be the worst idea in the world. Keeping them fresh.

Crosby, Guentzel and Aston-Reese all appear to be full participants at practice Monday. Should make for some interesting discussions about opening roster.

Vanilla is only good when there's fruit involved.

Like a ooey gooey blueberry butter cake with vanilla ice cream.

My lord. The only butter cake I've ever had was packaged stuff. I'm sure that's a world of difference. I made my best vanilla ice cream yet last week which would go amazing with that.

Yeah I've never had the packaged stuff, but this Cuban bakery (pictured above) by the rink I play at makes 3-4 different butter cakes, vanilla, blueberry, pumpkin, and caramel. The blueberry one is legit one of my top 3 desserts of all time, throw it in the over for like 10 minutes, and toss a scoop of ice cream on it.

And that's a high mark coming from a chocolate/peanut butter guy.

The packaged ones almost look like lemon bars. They're not gooey like that. I'm jealous.

I think his original timeline was middle of next week. Wouldn't be shocked to see him get in a full week of practices before he is cleared to play.

My only concern with Ruh would be how he handles an 82 game schedule. I’ve been told by a friend who spent two seasons with the phantoms though that Riley Cote was by far the best conditioned athlete on the team. Said he did bag skates after every morning skate he was a scratch and then worked out during the games.

Pens would be smart to put in a claim for Barre Boulet

And how dare you question the vaccine.
