Doubt he makes it. 41 goals is what he's averaged the last 5 seasons. 2 shortened seasons but no major injuries. He's 36 and an old 36 - his hair has been grey for several years, he drinks like an animal. He scored 24 last year. The team around him is nowhere near as good as it was a few years back. - winsix
Tbh I can see him making second but nothing first.
Who the hell knows tho? He’s also the type that could play for 8 more years lol
Yup, the leafs went with a bunch of young guys all at once… I could see how Jagr had more than all of them at the time.. a 2016 article… damn that’s already half a decade ago

A two way contract… thinks he ends up with them or their AHL squad? - Dozzer
I would think he'll spend the lion's share of the year in the AHL. I'm just guessing because last year he was in the Coyotes' organization and only played 2 NHL games - he was on their taxi squad for a large portion of the season, though. But Arizona is positionally weaker than Jersey.

I agree he will pass Howe, you have to consider Howe played for the most part, in an era where there really weren't any 50 goal scorers. I don't see OV hanging around if he either has a major injury or he starts scoring 15 or 20 goals a year playing on the top line. Even so, OV will go down as one of the greatest goal scorers of all time no question.
Big Deal! Leafs have one of the youngest lineups in the NHL. Their top 2 scorers have been in the NHL for 5 years, 2 of them short seasons. The lone greybeard JT has 10 years. How many years did Jagr play? The guy that wrote that bullpoop article must hate the leafs as much as that Habs idiot Grant McCagg

I sort of agree with 2nd. He needs 71 goals for 2nd. He needs 164 for 1st. I mean, you sort of get that depreciation rate . . . something in the area of 35, 30, 25, 20 . . . and that's honestly optimistic. That would leave him 54 shy of Gretzky and would have him scoring 20 in the NHL as a 40 year old. Even if he has better than average depreciation and you add 20 goals (5 more per year), he's still 34 shy.
Although he's a machine. He could power his way through and play 6 more years. He hasn't been injured often in his career (hopefully whatever happened tonight isn't too serious - I only saw a blurb pop up on my phone and your comment earlier in the thread).

His injury does look like the play was a touch too directly physical on his thigh and since it’s preseason it was game over for him… then again who knows, it didn’t look like much but that’s not the first time a bad injury happened in this league due to something simple
Hopefully he’s fine though. There was nothing dirty about the hit it was just awkward.
And yeah I agree, I think he’ll take Howe but not Gretzky
