Nice twist, I said wins, not winning percentage
- LeftCoaster

You said winning so I looked at the %...

So lets look at wins... only 3 GM's have more wins than Benning. Here's the ones that have less than Benning's 211 as of last season....

Hal Laycoe 24
Jack Gordon 52
Norman Polie 66
Phil Malonie 71
Harry Neale 87
Dave Nonis 130
Jake Milford 155

So who's twisting here? You are wrong on both wins and win% and before you go off about playoffs, he's in the top half there as well.

edit: I see you edited in a playoff comment. I got you there too.

Pathetically true.

Also, so much of Gillis' success was on the back of previous Gm's. I know people will say it's the same down the line but come on, Danny Sedin, Henrik Sedin, Luongo, Kesler, Burrows, Edler, Bieksa... it's not the same down the line. Gillis' success is based on adding to a core that was unparalleled in Canuck history.

All so very true.

In the case of Quinn he remade the team & the organization. Giving them an identity & a legacy that we all want to this day.

If only ranked for winning Benning would be at the bottom
- LeftCoaster

Also true but it hasn’t run it’s course & no GM inherited a mess like he did. Just a lil point you forgot lol

DiG, Dowling, Chaison, Mackewan and Highmore all getting late looks and vying for the last few spots.
Sure hope Boeser is back for game 1.

Win % doesnt agree with you. In fact, JB(.498%) has a higher win % than Pat Quinn(.477%). Jack Gordon .374%, Hal Laycoe ..358%, Norman Polie a pathetic .316%, Jake Milford .404%, Harry Neale .420%

Out of the 11 GM's listed, only 4 GM's have a higher win % than JB.... and only 4 GM's have more playoff appearances than Benning.

1970-2020

Nice narrative though...

- boonerbuck

Not factual given the loser point adds into point%. Win% only is less.

Everyone inherits somewhat of a mess, that’s usually why the previous GM no longer works there in most cases.

Case of denial born from bias & never can JB change your stance.

NO GM ever in Van had the cap & saddled with NTC & NMC’s even close to what Gillis left.

I don’t really defend JB but I do cut him slack & then tighten the noose each year. It seems I have to play devils advocate filling in what is conveniently ignored or defend him cuz his speech isn't perty as if it matters at all.

Yes and no. He also brought in Messier which almost destroyed the franchise. When Quinn left one could argue the franchise was at its lowest point. It was a mess. Burke came in and had to rebuild from the ground up.

Burke was the ultimate salesman.

What's factual is Lefty's claims are pure BS. JB's not last in any win stats no matter how we look at it.

Agree.

I think Burke made the most significant additions through trading and drafting than any other GM in Canuck's history.

They haven't even tried Garland on Bo's wing. Just Hoglander and a couple of grinder scrubs. Don't count on it. Status Quo seems to be the plan there...

Willie Desjardins is tied with Travis Green for win % in the regular season at .498 and a single playoff appearance for each.

I have my dads antique Lionel O gauge train set I’ve passed onto my 19yr old step son. Trying to inspire him to take up the hobby of miniature trainscapes.

I’ve never thought Gillis was wrong on cup pushes at all but he did it by mortgaging the future for many years is all I meant.
