Yikes.

Mega Yikes...

Giving Podz top line minutes already...

A complete bust up of the Lotto line which can often be one of the top lines in the NHL...

Miller in the bottom 6 which hasn't looked like a good choice so far...

Boeser hasnt had chemistry with Bo since his rookie season...

Canucks are talking trade with teams about Juolevi.

As of now, no contract talks with Chiasson yet.

the issue I see, is that the Canucks havent had 3 quality scoring lines since 2011.

The Canucks 2nd line on 2011 was almost as good as every other teams 1st line in Kesler - Raymond - Higgins.

The Canucks have lacked so much depth since then, that we always focus on 2 scoring lines and hopefully that will be enough to get us through the game with a W. I would love to see more scoring distributed throughout the lineup with an emphasis on giving the top 3 lines the majority of the ice time and the 4th line for energy/PK/etc, much like it was way back when.

that is my rationale behind my lines anyway.

to add, I also don't think that a player should be written off from a certain line based on his experience in the league. Kids are so talented these days, that they tend to learn pretty quick, as we are seeing with how young the league has shifted the last few years.

Kiprisov played top line last year in his rookie year. Zegras is playing top line this year. Eklund is playing top line. Sillinger is playing 2nd line. Caufield is playing 1st line. Tkachev is playing 2nd line. Hoglander played 2nd line last year. Robertson played between 2nd and 1st line last year. I think Rookies can influence the top 6 just as much as anyone else these days if they have the talent and they have the drive.

I like having 2 lines that can score, 1 line that can play hard again the best lines and at least be equal 5v5 and 1 line who's only role is to go out there and destroy the defense with heavy hits and forechecking.

Sadly we just don't have the depth for that. The offense always stalls if the Lotto line is quiet and they key on Bo who drives his line offensively.

...and now Green looks at different combinations finally...at the end of the preseason... combinations they didn't try in practices. All that evaluation of AHL plugs and very little NHL chemistry nailed down. Called it...

I haven’t really noticed him tonight. Heard his name called a few times, one bad pass that turned into a chance against, couple of decent chances around the net.

25….which would be good if that can be repeated by Podkolzin. Again, you don’t pick a kid 10th overall not thinking he’ll produce offense.

Hopefully he can find some offensive production this year as he builds more confidence and gets used to the pace out there.

Give him the line mates to succeed be my 1st step.

I have not liked Scheen at all this camp and a bigger problem is I don't like Millers game the last two games.
- VANTEL

Better suited as a winger but fine to take FO’s. Petan a better C option.

I would probably go:

Hoglander - petey - podkolzin
Pearson - horvat - boeser
Garland - Miller - Richardinson
Di guiseppe - Dowling - petan

Sutter motte IR. Macewen and chaisson bench.

Top 3 lines get most of the minutes.

Rumour is OJ wasn’t in top shape. Also I’d put it on the D coach to teach & improve his D corp.

Reading "The Athletic" this morning...

----------------------------------------

Looking back at Jonah Gadjovich

Within the Canucks’ hockey operations over the past week, there was some internal disagreement about whether Jonah Gadjovich was a serious threat to be claimed were he to be placed on waivers.

On Thursday, Gadjovich was claimed by the San Jose Sharks. His unique profile, draft pedigree and the work he put in over the summer to lose weight and improve his skating stride made him too tempting for the Sharks to pass up.

Gadjovich was pulled off the ice and informed he’d been claimed by the Sharks mid-day Thursday. He’ll have a good opportunity to make San Jose’s NHL roster, particularly as that club’s left wing depth has been hollowed out with Evander Kane’s immediate future still uncertain.

Sources close to the situation suggested to The Athletic this week that though the organization was disappointed to see Gadjovich claimed, Canucks head of player development and Abbotsford general manager Ryan Johnson was particularly gutted. Gadjovich had done everything asked of him and had finally emerged as a player worth giving a look to at the NHL level.

Ultimately key organizational leaders weren’t convinced that losing Gadjovich on waivers was likely, and the club was never going to keep him on the NHL roster just to avoid losing him on waivers. He didn’t factor into the club’s NHL roster out of the gate this season, however, and he was seen as more of a call-up-calibre option for the team.

Gadjovich had played in only one televised game and was hitting waivers relatively early, at a point when most teams still had 30 or more players on their training camp roster. At the highest levels of Canucks hockey operations, the expectation was that he’d clear. The rest is history.

What we’re hearing about Olli Juolevi and the Canucks’ plans as final cuts approach

-------------------------------------------

"Vancouver Canucks management spent Saturday morning and afternoon in a series of meetings, weighing the club’s options and drilling down on the specific roster machinations that will shape the team’s final cuts ahead of Monday evening’s roster deadline.

Among the toughest decisions to weigh and work through: the fate of 2016 fifth pick Olli Juolevi.

Juolevi hasn’t practiced with the Canucks’ main group since Quinn Hughes’ contract impasse was resolved last week and has appeared in only one of the club’s final four preseason contests. The club has discussed Juolevi as a trade chip in talks with several teams around the league, numerous industry sources confirmed to The Athletic on Friday night and Saturday morning.

The club is at the point that it’s exploring its options to find a change of scenery for Juolevi, now that it’s become apparent that the once highly touted Finnish prospect isn’t in Vancouver’s immediate plans at the NHL level this season.

The value Juolevi holds as a trade asset is minimal at this juncture, which should be obvious. He’ll have to be on waivers at 11 a.m. PT on Sunday if the Canucks plan to cut him in time to be reassigned by the Monday roster deadline.

It’s understood that if a deal can’t be found for Juolevi, the club most likely will waive him and plan to send him down to the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League.

With more news and notes, this is what Rick Dhaliwal and Thomas Drance are hearing as the Canucks’ decision on final cuts approaches

Plans for Danila Klimovich

---------------------------------------------

"Danila Klimovich impressed Canucks brass with his speed, athleticism and raw puck skills at training camp.

There was a sense, in fact, that he performed like a player far more ready for a professional level than the organization had expected.

Klimovich is down in Abbotsford now for the American League Canucks’ training camp, with the club facing a decision on where he should play this upcoming season: in the American League or in the QMJHL. It doesn’t seem to be decided yet, although the club losing Jonah Gadjovich on waivers might tilt things in favour of Klimovich remaining in the American League. Certainly, there’s now an additional vacancy in the American League Canucks’ top-six forward group.

The path that has led the organization here is an interesting one, and it’s a path that really began in Dallas at the U18 tournament. Before he starred for his native Belarus in Texas, Klimovich’s agent Dan Milstein had a tough time marketing him to teams.

The raw tools were evident, but no matter what Klimovich accomplished for his Tier 2 Belorussian team, the industry remained skeptical going into the U18 tournament this past spring. Forget marketing Klimovich as a draft target to NHL teams, Milstein struggled to find CHL clubs willing to take him in the import draft.

Things changed rapidly once Klimovich hit the ice and dominated at the U18s. After Belarus’ first game, NHL general managers and top amateur scouts flocked to watch the team play. The arena was absolutely packed for his second game of the tournament, leaving a game between Finland and the United States more sparsely attended than one would normally expect.

“Belarus was playing in the smaller rink,” Milstein recalled, “and I couldn’t get in! The place was packed with scouts and GMs, and that was the day he got on the radar. He didn’t have many viewings before that. Dallas was big for him because he got on teams’ radar.”

It was an emotional moment for Klimovich and his family when the Canucks selected him with the 41st pick, and the two sides almost immediately got to work, with Canucks general manager Jim Benning calling Milstein to begin contract talks.

The Canucks were operating, in part, on organizational memory. The arduous path that Vasili Podkolzin carved out in the two seasons after he was selected 10th was fresh in their minds.

The club wanted to bring Klimovich to North America promptly, or at least have some control over where he played. The Minsk-based KHL club was an option the Canucks explored in the summer, but ultimately the decision was made to bring him to North America and give him a chance to earn a spot on a professional roster at training camp.

That’s a chance that Klimovich has seized. There’s still a chance he ends up in the QMJHL — and he’s eligible to be reassigned to the CHL level at any time — but he’s going to get a long look at Abbotsford’s training camp and probably to begin the AHL season. And there are those internally who feel that not only should Klimovich spend his first season in North America in the American League, but also that he might be ready as an NHL call-up option by the end of this season
