OK, what are some things to try for insomnia. I have tried sleeping pills, couple of those PM medicines and smoking and drinking myself to sleep. I am at the point were alcohol doesn't seem to do anything cause of the tiredness. Any hints for after the game.

It sucks, but it is a lot about routine, habit and depends on which pills you’ve tried…

Ambian and ambian Cr are dated and never worked on the right area of the brain to do well long term. Think upper brain function vs lower. Sleep happens in the lower, ambian focused on upper. Also, never indicated for long term use and body gets used to it, so more drug needed for same effect longer term and once taken off. Rebound insomnia hits and that’s harder to control than normal…

Lunesta same mechanism of action as ambian but focused more on lower brain function.

Trazadone is an antidepressant used for its side effect of sleep.

Belsomra is one of the “newer” sleep aids that was launched focusing of the orexyn receptor pathway. It was supposed to help in the sleep cycle by triggering the orexyn pathway. There is a dual orexyn receptor drug out there but I don’t know much about that.

melatonin is an over the counter that you can try. And some teas…

End of the day, insomnia sucks and I’ve probably seen the most success with Lunesta…. But everyone is a bit different. And there could be some underlying things going on.

Best to Badger the doc and steer them away from ambian and trazadone…

A strike-out but substitute a full beer with a NyQuil shot.

Hit the bong - hold in the smoke, then shot of whiskey followed by a shot of NyQuil, finally exhale…sleep like a baby

2 shots and a beer 30 minutes before you crash



2 pm pain pills
swig of nyquil
nose strip


and put on a movie you have seen 100 times so not focused to watch
