He was also playing top pairing minutes with Sandin on the Marlies so we could potentially that pairing with the big club at some point. - dmnted
Honestly my guess is that they let Rielly walk, put Sandin in his spot, and let Liljegren take Sandin’s spot on the bottom pairing.
Then once Brodie’s contract is up Liljegren will get bumped up to play with Sandin again |

Back to Lilljgren. If this guy can't lock down a 7th spot in his 5th year as a pro, it's time to move past this guy. - fifty__missions
Watch him hockey. The only way he won't be apart of this team for years to come is if the team foolishly trades him.
Liljegren really should have a spot on the team already, but they can send him down freely and that way he'll also get lots of ice time, instead of being a 7th. |

Even tho you continue to ignore me they don’t have the cap space for a 7th d man and they’d rather have him playing top pairing minutes anyways.
Believe me if they could afford a 7th d man it wouldn’t be him, they don’t want a top end 22 year old player sitting most of the season - Dozzer
Now you're coming around to my point. Which is very, very simple:
They don't have the cap space to be a Cup contender. |

Wait, wait, wait.
Keefe has just given us a definitive statement on Liljegren:
David Alter
@dalter
Keefe on Liljegren: "Lily's an important guy for us in the organization and we've said that for a long time and I'm happy how he's progressed. "

Liljegren has done nothing but get better and better every single year with the Marlies. He's been their best player for 3 years, and that includes when Sandin was there. It's just unfortunate that he suffered a few pretty serious injuries that slowed down his inevitable rise to the Leafs roster.
Just gotta kick Holl's useless ass to the curb and slot Liljegren in. |

A team that considers themselves cup contenders would never want two rookie d men
It’s really that bloody simple - Dozzer
Sure they would.
Put them on two different lines.
Lili probably starts in the AHL and then comes up at some time depending on how he does. |

It doesn’t… according to him they need a guy wearing a suit and sitting to watch the game |

They have NO depth on defence, and they have taken fliers on guys up front.
Who needs defence depth to win a Cup, anyway? |

So the problem is lifted, then. Ditch Holl, who sucks, and put in Liljegren.
Boom! Cleared up over $1M on the CAP, to boot. GM'ing is easy. |

Why is Holl so hated?
The guy had 20 points and was plus 16 playing in the shutdown pairing last year ffs
That’s really damn good for a 4th d man |

2 years in a row he starts the season playing very well. 2 seasons in a row he got worse and worse as the season went on. Also 2 playoffs in a row that when Muzzin got hurt, Holl was lost and incredibly useless.
So, yeah. Holl can get (frank)ed as far as I'm concerned. |

Oh he needs a good 3rd d man to play with but so long as he does he plays well.
Don’t build a pairing around him but use him to accent a good d man like Muzzin |
