Uh?
No sorry, Schenn was never going to be a top pairing Dman. Leafs fans simply expected too much from him.
He could have been an effective 3rd pairing dman for sure....which is pretty much what he was his career.
He won a cup or two as a 7th dman.

But not top pairing on a winning team.

- Fakepartofme

In the Leafs' defence (no pun intended), the game changed, and Schenn was a typewriter in the computer age.

I miss the days when I was chirping back and forth with friends who are Habs fans and would just rename the link to this website and send it to them. It was a mic drop moment for so so long......

Yup. It's not a bargain but he would land more on the open market! Great player.

I think the idea it's the exact same contract as Eichels may make it a bit of a bargain

I'm not sure that defends the Leafs very well.

If a company in 1995 invested heavily in typewriters, I'd blame them.

Probably a better deal just because Eichel takes him to a prime year UFA final contract payout at 28 yearsold, whereas Barkov by 34 will be at the end of his time there likely.

Same management that thought they were signing "defensive superstar" Kurt Sauer, but the name the contract said was...Jeff Finger?

Then taking him 5th overall in one of the deepest drafts of the last 15 years was a terrible decision and should have been called out as such at the time.

He was seen as a future top shutdown defenseman. It didn't work out that way.

- Leafs43

Deep draft?

Actually, if you look at the 2008 draft, it wasn't that bad a pick:

https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2008e.html

Yeah, Erik Karlsson went 15th, but not many other great picks on that round after Schenn.

I've always laughed at this story.

"The Leafs' management was so incompetent, they signed Finger, thinking they were signing Sauer. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha hah ha!"

Why make up this troll story? The truth is worse.

The Leafs' management was so incompetent, they signed Finger, thinking they were signing Finger.

I remember them referring to the 2008 draft as the deepest draft since 2003. I haven't really looked in hindsight to see how the draft turned out.

Carlson at the end of the first round would have been nice.

Mine haven't crawled out of my gut since the floater first goal the Habs scored in game 7....I thought all the warm summer weather may coax them out but nope.

They (and I) have full blown PTG7D (Post Traumatic Game 7 Disorder)

6 round, 157 Columbus Cam Atkinson. good late pick.

4 round, 114 Calgary T.J. Brodie - good pick.

We’re the 1976 Habs. Lineups are almost identical except for the lack of francophones.

So we're basically the greatest team of all-time and we're going to make the playoffs our female dog this year?

If we’re going to be the Habs, let’s be the (frank)ing Habs. I cheered for that team. I cheer for this team. Coincidence? I think not.

If a hockey team was the 40-goal-scoring-without-ever-scoring-40-goals Phil Kessel....it would the Leafs. Apparently.

And you get 40 goals and you get 40 goals and you get 40 goals and Ilya Mikheyev gets 55 goals. Why the (frank) not?
