Flyers drafting centers in the rebuild is not average, drafting overall yes but they did not succeed with centers. Now it could be Patrick and injuries were just bad luck but as a business they failed.

just quick question then. and i think this is what the other poster was referring too in regards to the draft and the impact the players taken have made. example Patrick was the second overall pick. If he turns out to be a 4c possible 3c is that a good pick just bc he plays in the nhl? I think people have different expectations of players due to their draft range. Like higher first round picks should be impact players. later first round picks should project to be second or third line players. yes some will fall and later round picks will develop late. Hence the finding a gem. But can easily see any outside of the first/second round that make it to the nhl on a consistent basis were descent picks.

I think the issue he is bringing up is the amount of first round picks made have not panned out. which happens to all organizations. some though it seems more than others.

I’d say Patrick is a huge miss even though he made it. It depends on how you frame it as a contributor. We certainly haven’t hit on any superstars nor even stars I would say, but most of the time we’re not drafting in the top 5 range. Mid to late first rounds you just don’t know. Now if you look back and say every other player that was picked around the one we took turned into a star, I think then you have a care.

You could also look at it as none of tk provy hart farabee have turned out to be stars, then all these forst rounders have been misses.

In the dinosaurs defense, Patrick was spoon fed line mates and PP time. He sucked here.

No. We need to argue the degree of chance he had of making the team. This is the only way.

It wouldn't surprise me if he improves. If it does, it just wasn't going to happen in Philly. He wanted out and he wasn't going to improve here. Realistically what value did he have? Certainly not the value of a player selected 2nd overall.

You’re right. Look at these centers drafted with 1st round picks between 2016-2018: Rubtsov, Patrick, Frost, and OBrien. That’s about as solid you get and a big reason the Flyers have Derick Brassard starting the season as their 2nd line center.
- psuhockey

If Brassard starts the season as the 2C, it's because Hayes got hurt.

That isn't the only reason. Another part of the equation is they do not have anyone better internally. Which may or may not have been his or her point.

Well him and Myers got a top paring dman back. That was his value. I just wonder why Nashville traded Ellis....

The value of a player drafted 2nd overall is fluid. No set value.

The Patrick situation is definitely difficult. I wanted to see another year first. But I guess time will tell. Will try to catch the vegas game as he is on the first line. The one game I saw he looked the same as before. Didn’t see the others but they said he’s been fine. Just sucks bc the only two times we pick second overall they ended up gone after a few years.

Are they serious? I hope they never score a goal at this rate.

This may be the only time in NHL history the goal song gets booed when we DO score.

I do not think that outside of producing McDavid type of numbers would change AV's mind on the outcome of camp for the prospects. He likes vets, prefers vets in specific roles, and does not seem to change his mind.
- corduroy

I think a rookie/prospect would make the team if they left the team with no choice.
Frost didn’t do that for sure.
