That's why I've never said Jake sucked. I wanted him outta here because I thought he made too much against the cap and I didn't like certain aspects of his game. I always looked at him as having a low hockey IQ and a questionable work ethic. There are aspects of his game they will miss, but they made a hockey trade and I hope it works out.
- Phillywhiteout

Yeah. He certainly doesn’t suck and I wish him
Well. Unfortunately, we didn’t achieve much success with him here and changes were needed. If Atkinson plays with consistently high energy, and proves to be a shoot first player that can pot some goals and be strong on the pk, I think this will work out well for us.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Frost back with the team by opening night or even more likely game 2.

The Phantoms have 2 preseason games and 3 regular season games before the Flyers play their 2nd game. There could be a method to the Flyers madness here trying to get Frost as many live games as possible in as short a time as possible. Its the only true way for him to get his game back. It just cant really be done at practice.

- MBFlyerfan

it is still not a good lineup even with him in it. He earned his demotion.

Lets see what he does in the AHL games. Anything you get will be gravy as clearly he cant be counted to be a core piece at this time production wise. I still believe he will make a trade.

I like Jake but I always saw him as a player we could move to change up the chemistry. The idea is that we had too many pass first players and we needed a balance with some shooters. Aspects of his game will be missed but he was a core player that we could swap to mix it up. I guess the flyers were in agreement with you as they left him exposed in the ed. To get a good player in return along with some more cap space was a win.

Jake isn't a bad player. I don't think anyone believes he is. But we know what he is and how he plays. He has had preseasons like this before. It's a shame really. He has the ability to be that threat every time he steps on the ice. It's just he consistently doesn't do what he can. We shall see what he is like in Columbus by the end of the year. Waiting for the first explosion between him and laine.

What I always wanted from him was to use that big frame to drive to the net when he had an opportunity. When the physicality ramped up, there was too much looking for the pass or button hook once getting over the blue line and perimeter play. He may be very good feeding Laine as his setup guy.

One of the most depressing camps I can remember. Prospects hardly threatening the bottom barrel UFA’s that were signed.

Good stuff. Hadn’t read that. I particularly like the details of Harts offseason. I’m preseason he has looked more confident and more like his old self. While it is only preseason, I am happy with what I see technically. Seemed to challenge at the right times and good rebound control. Once thing I always noticed. He was so good with the glove. Not only roundhouse saves but catching the puck through traffic which just shuts down the danger and allows the team to re set snd get a change. He was off last year but his glove has looked like it did before. Very good news imo.

Here come the Jakey lovers! He had a three point night tonight in another meaningless exhibition game!! Big whoop! Oh, and Brassard earned the spot over Frost. It's really that simple. Ya wanna see the young guys take the ball and run when given the chance, and Frost dropped the ball and tripped over the blue line! He's 22 now....no more babying.
- Phillywhiteout

The games Frost played in are meaningless aren't they? Just like they are for Voracek? Stating that Frost dropped the ball is absurd.

Voracek is top 5 in franchise history in assists and is one of the top playmakers in the league over the period of time he played as a Flyer. However he is not a superstar and he has faults to his game. He is a better player than many have given him credit for.

Are they going to keep Wilson up because Allison needs surgery and will miss most of the season?

I don't think he is going to make a difference. I think he's just a body out there that can be serviceable. He wasn't playing against an NHL lineup. At the time of the signing, I didn't like it because it gave Frost a lesser chance to make the team. I want this team putting the future first in front of the present.
-MJL

Frost didn't make the team because he is not ready to make the team, plain and simple. It had nothing to do with signing Brassard and Thompson as depth players, in fact, it should be clear to you that the only reason these players were signed was because Fletcher and his coaching staff pretty much knew Frost would not be ready. I am willing to give Frost more time to develop given his injury, but I have concerns that a 22 your old center and former 1st round pick is still not ready, and looked to me like he didn't want to earn the spot on the big club!

Jake being Jake. As soon as the games get physical he will disappear as always.

Yeah really!! He's soft as Charmain toilet paper. Could have been so much more cause he has the ability, but he is a perimeter player and always will be.

ok

you may not like aspects of his game but calling him soft and passive is flat out stupid

Ok, whatever you say.

He seemed to forecheck ok, but agree he is a bust. Also agree Hextalls record it taking a hit here.. when you look back at his tenure it was not all that good. Love the guy, but glad he moved on.
- Joe Nardone

Spot on, the evidence is clear, Hextall missed on too many top picks and this has set this franchise back considerably!

The Flyers don't have a 2C to replace Hayes unless they're willing to move Giroux back to center.
- MJL

Hmmm .. didn't I suggest this last week and you told me it would better to move Laughts back to center instead? I think G has to be the 2nd line center now, with Brassard at 3C and Thompson at 4C. This might be a good thing because I would then put Farabee and TK on the top line with Couts, I think that would be a very interesting top line.

If you're referring to drafting, Hextall's tenure was solid.

I see the exact opposite. He seems like a very mature conscientious kid who thrives on structure both on the ice and in his personal life. That is about as far from having a silver spoon as I can think of.

Its just so fundamentally incorrect to build a team in the summer just giving jobs away. Unless Mark Howe or Mark Messier are coming spots need to be taken not inherited.

I hate to break the news to you, but our prospects are just ok. At best. You want to wait and build for the future? Just how long would you like to wait?

I’m going to guess the GM took a good hard look and decided the supposed arsenal of prospects we have just is not all that great. The Hockey News agrees.

We did that w 27 as GM for years. Unless you are going to flat out tank for 5 years as per the pens it does not work.

- Joe Nardone

this is a vey important point that we all need to come to grips with. Yes Hextall got us TK, Farabee, Provorov and Hart, all good players. But he missed badly on several other top picks and we really have not seen any diamonds in the rough from his lower round picks. Patrick is a bust. Frost is 22 and is not ready. JOB (as much as I liked what I see from him lately) is still behind on his development. Rubtsov is a bust. Allison can't stay on the ice. Laberge career minor leaguer. I can go on with his horrible FA signings, but this should give you an idea of how many misses Hextall has had in 5 years, and it absolutely is having a huge negative impact on the current team, and caused Fletcher to have the off season he just had.

Saint Ronnies 1st and 2nd rd picks.

2014 - Sanhero NAK

2015 - TK Ivan

2016 - German Labarge Hart Allison

2017 - Frost Ratcliffe Nolan

2018 - Joel JOB Ginning

How do you rate him based on the picks from above. Not a superstar out of the bunch. None who are top 10 at their positon.

Hey we all have different opinions based on how we were raised, where we grew up etc.

Agree to disagree.
