Means we don't have to rely on Woll to be our backup if one of the top two gets hurt.

I don't like the idea of Hutch getting starts at the NHL level - but I prefer him over Woll right now I think.

It's ok. Our ebug is pretty damn good.

Marner ranked 4th best RW on TSN's Top 50 players list.

I'll refrain from commenting that he's paid like the highest... oops.

Right now, the Leafs' PR department is praying that Keefe doesn't put this line together.

I'm actually serious on this.

Yeah, I'm really not suggesting that this year Liljegren will be a regular but I do see him being as much in the future.

Frankly, I think he's better than Holl who I truly believe is vastly overrated.

No he doesn’t.

Once your head gets broken you aren’t what you used to be. Believe me.

And yet after his 4th concussion Crosby didn’t see any drop off in play.

Well Crosby is a superstar, hence his ability to still be dominant post concussions

If it’s not a superstar they drop off and quick

Holl was not a first round pick and never seen as a high end prospect. There have been quite a few guys like him who have found a spot after a long term in the A. I can't think of a single first round pick who has developed along the Justin Holl trajectory.
- fifty__missions

Yup, Liljegren is a 1st round pick who played his first NHL game at the age of 20. He's ready to become a regular NHLer at the tender age of 22/23.

So he's decidedly NOT on the Justin Holl trajectory (it took him 10 years!) but the point is that there are plenty of players who need a bit of marinating before they become NHL regulars -- especially when it comes to defenders.

Need a better example? How about Jake Bean who only became a regular d-man last year? He was drafted 13th overall the year prior to Lily.

Of the trio of defenders taken right before Lily in his draft class - Brannstrom, Foote, and Valimaki - only the latter has played close to a full season.

Liljegren is trending in the right direction and will be an NHLer soon enough.

He could come back and be a decent player.

Say what you want about TSN and their lists but it's not controversial to suggest Marner would rank 4th or 5th in the league for RWs.

Agree with both Pat and yourself. Woll is barely an AHL level goaltender.

It would be controversial if he was 5th.
But at 4th, he has 3 players ahead of him that each have multiple stanley cups. So tough company.

Listen I’m not against Liljegren but there’s no way a team that considers themselves a cup contender will go with two rookie d men.

And like I said, pairing two is a shut down pairing, so unless it’s the type of guy that improves Muzzin or Holl in that role they won’t be split apart

- Dozzer

aww FIDDLESTICKS!

while i agree with your criticism of lolegren, i disagree with your assessment of the construction of the team and strategy going forward

dmen and goalies shouldn’t be an afterthought

puzzin needs more help

reilly can go kick rocks in vancouver if he’s not satisfied with a mil or half a mil less

dubass should’ve grown some stones real quick and offloaded one or both of greedy pencil neck or floater willi for some more grown men who are morally invested in the team instead of their greed

he should’ve invested from the net out

defense combined with committed (starting with ownership) personnel wins championships

this is a truism in any sport

what an ever loving joke😍

edit: nice alliteration 👍🏿

1. Kucherov
2. Kane
3. Pasta
4. Rants
5. Marner

I don't see that as being controversial. Hell, some might say Mark Stone deserves to be Top 5.

I think he's Top 5 but not sure if he belongs any higher than 4th.
