No they didn’t.
They see him as a bottom pairing guy. Get used to him. - Dozzer
Think they are still upset with Dermott for the turnover in OT of Game 6.. Maybe, he's traded or dropped to the 7th spot, but I don't think he's being guaranteed anything |

still a week away. Dubas could still trade someone maybe, a Dermott or an Engvall?
I have a feeling that Mikheyev will play 2LW on the Tavares-Nylander line to start the season. - PatC80
Yup, it will be him on the second line

He wasn't a UFA, he was an RFA team controlled.
They signed him to either play him or hold his value.
Holy (frank) you are closed minded, you are acting as if a 24 year old bottom pairing d at a 1.5M contract is untouchable and won't be traded.
He is not guaranteed a spot. He is a depth piece.
He may be on the team, he may not...but its ridiculous to be handing him a spot right now. - Santo_44
You can let RFA’s walk
They signed him because they wanted him. End of story.
They’re not going to play two rookie d men on a team they consider cup contenders. |

I don't necessarily want to lose Engvall.
We just have no roster flexibility right now. We will also be screwed if there is a short term injury on defense if we are only carrying 6.
I would rather see them either make a trade now, or try to sneak someone through waivers now - rather than trying to get someone through waivers mid season when there have been injuries/under performances that lead to teams wanting to make changes. - Leafs43
Engvall is too important to Spezza.
Spezza likes to do the draws but then play wing, so they need a guy like Engvall to start at the wing and move to center mid play. They don’t have another guy like that. |

uhmmm...let him walk and lose his value?
They signed him because he has value to the team. Either in their lineup or in a trade.
They did not sign him to guarantee him a spot on the team.
He played an average of 13 mins per game last season ffs... |

I would be shocked if Kase starts the season as the 13th forward. If they give Mik some time on the 2nd then I think Kase is on the 3rd and Bunting is on the 4th. I doubt Mi, last long up there and Bunting moves up.
If Engvall slots into the 13th spot, 5hey might be tempted to trade his $ and move one of the versatile last cuts up.

He scored twice in his first game of the year and he’s Spezza’s line mate.
So you might as well get used to the idea now. He’ll be in game one. |

I agree with this. I think Engvall is either shipped out of town before opening night or he's our 13th forward and they take the risk of someone claiming Brooks (who I think has been solid and I actually prefer). |

i agree👍🏿
engvall and souperman are rare commodities👍
big, fast, sound hockey players without the “greatest hands”👍
the entire team is not supposed to be specializing in ice dancing🤦🏿♂️
plus, neither is necessarily a pencil neck 👍
could be thicker but not bad 👍🏿
