Then why are you surprised they aren’t going with two rookies?

That alone should tell you they don’t have adequate knowledge (just being a rookie)

- Dozzer

Because sometimes, maybe rarely, rookies actually are the better option, despite the growing pains.

It's not always ideal, but it's possible.

I wouldn't be shocked to see him called up ̶I̶F̶ when Kase is injured for example.

Joey Anderson (TOR), Carl Dahlstrom (TOR), Brennan Menell (TOR), Brett Seney (TOR)

Leafs players on waivers today.

Seney had a great goal last night and Menell was pretty solid on the 2nd pp unit.

No real surprise they’re on waivers but would assume they all clear.

If Liljegren shows he is ready they have an opportunity to trade Dermott and can accumulate more cap for the TDL. They are 100% considering this option.

They will likely want to get a real top 6 forward at the TDL this year.

- Santo_44

So who gets put on waivers to start the season then?

Or are you saying Dermott gets traded prior to the start of the season?

While sitting in the booth? Kase will be number 13 and if he does play and get hurt they’ll need another forward

If he's called up, it's because he's playing obviously.

No point in letting him rot as the 13th forward.

I'm sure we'll see him in action at some point during the year.

He’s getting more practice with the team cause he’ll be the one called up after an injury. He’ll likely be sent down before Saturday.

- Dozzer

If they had fully made up their minds, they would have sent him down. He’s still the most likely to be sent down but he may win a spot over Dermott

I doubt they trade Dermott but I wouldn’t be opposed to trading him. Would rather have defensive defenseman in the 6 spot with Sandin.

I doubt Robertson is at the top of the list of forwards to be brought up.

So many don’t grasp that after these guys there’s only 80 grand in cap space:

Matthews, Auston
Tavares, John
Marner, Mitchell
Nylander, William
Kerfoot, Alexander
Ritchie, Nick
Mikheyev, Ilya
Kämpf, David
Kase, Ondrej
Engvall, Pierre
Bunting, Michael
Simmonds, Wayne
Spezza, Jason
Muzzin, Jake
Rielly, Morgan
Brodie, TJ
Holl, Justin
Dermott, Travis
Sandin, Rasmus
Mrázek, Petr
Campbell, Jack

So who would you drop to have him be the 7th d man? The leafs only have $80K in cap space

And defence will be:

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin Holl
Sandin Dermott

None of those guys would be waiver exempt so who do you drop to give Liljegren a chance?

Also there’s no damn way in hell the leafs will play two rookie defensemen when they consider themselves cup contenders

- Dozzer

Sandin is good, they believe in him and he's not a rookie anymore.

They have some vets in Biega and Dahlstrom that can step in.

Who cares that they have two rookie D its October. If they trade Dermott and play Lil they could have 5+M in cap space at the deadline. Perfect for a contender.

They describe him as the one who can play in multiple areas… hence 13th forward

Especially after the two goal game from Engvall. It’s those two who are 12 and 13 and Engvall is better because he can let Spezza do the face offs but then jump into the center role

After his pre-season, I would be surprised if Liljegren is not on the NHL roster for game 1 of the regular season..

I mean, he's spent time with Muzzin and Muzzin is our best defenseman..

- PatC80

i like muzzin but he shouldn’t be our best defenseman 🤦‍♂️

long ago, dubass should’ve dealt the two greedy pencil neck, fancy pants floaters for a couple of legit threats on the blue line ala jones, weber, doughty, petro etc 🤦🏿‍♂️

what a doggone joke🤦‍♂️

edit: nice alliteration👍🏿

If there is no trade - they will likely need to put a forward on waivers at some point during the year.

I think they should put Engvall on waivers now instead of trying to sneak him through later in the year.

Why in hell do you think they’ll trade a guy they resigned this summer (Dermott)

That’s not going to happen

Also Biega and Dahlstrom will be sent down because they don’t have the cap space for them

Its October. Having 2 rookies on the team is really not significant at all.

Would rather see what we have in Lil then play Dermott all year...Plus the cap space is more important.

If they go with 21 skaters, I could see them going 12 F, 7 D, and 2 G.

I think Liljegren, all things considered, deserves a shot with the big club this year.

Because it happens? Teams trade contracts all the time. You are very closed minded.

He was an RFA they had to sign him.

I’d keep him, he’s the one guy they have that can play both wing and center for Spezza on the 4th line

No they didn’t.

They see him as a bottom pairing guy. Get used to him.

Anyone left right now is being considered for an NHL job.

Dermott may be headed elsewhere by this Monday.

still a week away. Dubas could still trade someone maybe, a Dermott or an Engvall?

I have a feeling that Mikheyev will play 2LW on the Tavares-Nylander line to start the season.

the roster is not yet finalized, but I do see at least a trade, or another waiver drop like Hutchinson

I don't necessarily want to lose Engvall.

We just have no roster flexibility right now. We will also be screwed if there is a short term injury on defense if we are only carrying 6.

I would rather see them either make a trade now, or try to sneak someone through waivers now - rather than trying to get someone through waivers mid season when there have been injuries/under performances that lead to teams wanting to make changes.

He wasn't a UFA, he was an RFA team controlled.

They signed him to either play him or hold his value.

Holy (frank) you are closed minded, you are acting as if a 24 year old bottom pairing d at a 1.5M contract is untouchable and won't be traded.

He is not guaranteed a spot. He is a depth piece.

He may be on the team, he may not...but its ridiculous to be handing him a spot right now.
