I wonder how long he / Tanooki / Horesy Sauce will be off on vacation ? - bixll
Considering the events that occurred, I'm guessing a long time.

No - getting Engvall through waivers is the solution, he would be called back up and put on the roster.
Getting him through waivers at the beginning of the year means he is waiver exempt the rest of the year. He can be sent up and down as needed - that's where the flexibility comes in.
As we are right now (if we run with 6 D and 13F) a short term injury on defense would mean a forward needs to go down in order to have the cap space to bring up a defenseman. If Engvall has already gone through waivers - he could be that forward. - Leafs43
I'm sure some teams would be interesting in grabbing Engvall if goes through waivers.
If I'm the Habs, I'm considering it for sure since Poehling as been very "meh" in camp.

I'm actually trying to keep Engvall.
The likelyhood of a short term injury on D is pretty high in my opinion. Eventually, a forward likely has to go on waivers.
Maybe Simmonds could go on waivers and threaten retirement if someone claims him like Spezza did.
I think that forward would probably be Engvall. I think sneaking him through now is the best way to keep him. But he could also be claimed.
Tough choice.

I thought maybe his cap hit would deter teams. He could be replaced by similar players for less.
He could be claimed. No idea. I just think we will probably need to put someone from this roster on waivers. Might as well do it now and get it over with.

trades, maybe? I would try to get something even a late round pick instead of losing a player to waivers |

If he was on waivers I would assume Buggalo or Arizona would be the destinations. |

I've suggested it multiple times.
Try to sneak Engvall through waivers now.
If he is claimed - cap issues are reduced. If not, he is now waiver exempt for the rest of the year and we have some flexibility. - Leafs43
He's only waiver exempt for 30 days. |

I think (and I could be oh so wrong about this) teams usually try and wait until the very last second to put their interesting players through waivers.
That way there's a chance teams that could have picked him up decided to grab someone else before or have already set their roster and decide not to mess with it right before the season.

Simmonds on waivers, might be a better option than Engvall. Engvall can PK and play C/W.. Simmonds may not get much PP time with Nick Ritchie here now..
Engvall is far more versatile than Simmonds |

It would be tight but it would work, I think.
But yeah, plenty of other suitors out there.

I believe this is untrue. I think it like 30 days or after 10 games played, he would need to go through waiver again. |

Simmonds is done. I said it before you signed him when I was scared he'd end up in Montreal and I still think so today.
But he looks very respected in the Leafs room. Keefe seems to love that guy.
According to a 5 episode documentary I watched at least.

Do you not get cap relief with the injured players salary ? When they are placed on the IR... |

So, in your opinion, moving the Giraffe's 1.25 mill deal to the A is the solution for team flexibility ??
Sorry, I don't see it. - bixll
The Leafs will still be on the hook for some his cap as well. Granted, it's not much but still. |

Keefe likes him, because Simmonds is just as intense as he is.. I still love Simmonds and wish he could put up 20 goals again.. I just think Engvall is more valuable to the Leafs |

You can get over the cap by the same amount than of the injured player's salary.
But when the player comes back from injury, you need to be back to being cap compliant.
It's not free cap space unless the player is injured all year. |

Depending on how big ones balls are, they could try to get Mikheyev through. Not sure anyone is taking him at 1.6.
The no term after this year could be the poop kicker for both him and Engvall however. |

Can he play 4th line minutes and play a certain style for $900K? There are a bunch of guys I like more than him but if he does give them something unique on the team. I’m not sure it’s worth it if he can’t make plays but maybe it’s ok in a limited role. |
