It is a big game, however it is not the end of the world if they lose.

It is important to see if Josh can handle playing in a big time game against a big time QB on the road.

I want it to be perfect football weather and watch two elite QBs air it out.

Is it a must win game for the Bills if they want to be the 1 seed in the AFC?

Agreed its not the end of the World, but we would basically control are own destiny to the #1 seed then.

A must win to be the #1 seed? Maybe

Would it be a huge help to get the 1? Absolutely

I think there is more on the line for them mentally than anything. I am not talking moral victories, this team is past that, but none of the games that they have played each other has looked like the Bills belonged with them.

Bills have a much easier remaining schedule than the Chiefs.

Even if they lose Sunday they still have as good a shot as anyone at the first seed

Well that's the thing, 2 game lead plus the tiebreaker. I don't think the Bill's even lose 3 more games and even if they did, I don't see KC running the table.

Sorry Hank but I just can’t buy the excuses anymore. Last year it was the alleged bad goaltending that cost us but the team went out and bought an extra 12 million on goal scorers. How did that work out? I’m sure the project worked out to cost over one mil per goal. Still it was goaltending that supposedly screwed everything up. Ralphie had the balls to make one high paid player accountable but in the end it got him fired instead and the overpriced goal scorer lives to not score another day. Really not much said about this now because it’s already the goalies fault and we haven’t even started this year. Too many times all I read on this site is bad bad goaltending, not an NHL goaltender or can’t wait for UPL to be ready. The weirdest thing is that all these bad non NHL goalies are on other NHL teams now and probably very happy to not be here.

Man you gotta see the forest through the trees. Hank, nor anyone here, is saying the ailment of the Sabres is bad goaltending. This blog specifically identifies how you're providing an already extremely weak team with sub-replacement level goaltending. yes, they're tanking "with dignity". They're using a bunch of kids, the hopefully future core of this team, and supplementing it with a few short term vets. They're forcing UPL to play meaningful games without proving himself, and also relying on a 40 y/o goaltender. I suppose there's a chance both could provide replacement or above replacement level goaltending, but today it doesn't look like it.

outside view, I'm very happy Eichel has not been traded!! if no one will give you an offer you like, then sit and wait is 100% the right play. you may never get what you originally thought but at least you have to wait for something close. It's about time GM's make a baby like Eichel wait. I hope he sits all year and doesn't get moved till the summer.

Sabres claim Axel Johnsson-Fjallby
- ImThatGuy

this is from sbnation and his top 25 under 25 for the caps

11) Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, LW, 23yo, 6’0” 185lbs (Previously Ranked 15th)
AHL: 31GP - 10G - 5A

The Skinny: Fjallby has been a fan favorite for quite some time now. It’s his buzz saw style of play with blazing speed that makes him so appealing. And, of course, the hair. He’s been improving his game every season in the AHL and was on pace for a career high in points this season. He’s one of those interesting players where he has more goals than assists over his career with the Bears: 24 goals and 17 assists. He was on pace for 25 goals over a full 76 AHL game season. It’s not too surprising since his speed gets him quite a few breakaways and odd man rushes where he can capitalize with his wicked wrister.

When he played in the SHL he was known as a clutch playoff performer. In his last two seasons in the SHL, he played 30 playoff games, scored 13 goals and 20 points (0.67 pts/game), while during the regular season he played 78 games with just eight goals and 26 points (0.33 pts/game). The point totals shouldn’t worry you too much since he consistently kept getting the least amount of minutes among forwards on his team. Unfortunately he hasn’t played in a playoff game for Hershey just yet due to the pandemic cancelling the playoffs the last two years, so we don’t know if that clutch play will carry over to North America.

Potential and Comparable: Usually I just focus more on players that will have higher ceilings, but Fjallby has that ability to be a really high end bottom six player in the NHL, and though it isn’t sexy, you need those players to win Cups. The Capitals probably don’t win their Cup without the clutch goals by the fourth line, specifically Devante Smith-Pelly.

A good comparable for Fjallby is what Carl Hagelin is now. A very strong bottom six player that’s elite on the penalty kill and can get you 20+ points every season. The difference between the two is while Hagelin has arguably the worst shot among forwards in the league, Fjallby’s shot is lethal. It’s hard, accurate, and fast. He might score 5+ shorthanded goals alone every season due to his speed and shot.

What’s Next: There’s really nothing else Fjallby could learn at the AHL. He’s one of the few players I’d have no problem at all if he was the 13th forward for the Capitals. It won’t hurt his development to watch the games from the press box, practice with the team, and get a game here and there. Plus, there probably won’t be a better mentor for him in the league than Hagelin.

This may or may not be true, I don't know. It certainly isn't anywhere near the top of the list of why he was a bad coach and needed to be fired.

for those wondering about "his tallness" being tall in the saddle at pivot, from john vogl:

"Don Granato says Arttu Ruotsalainen isn't feeling well, which is main reason Tage Thompson is playing center. But the Sabres' coach adds he called Thompson during the summer to tell him to prepare for some center play this year."

neat.

Sabres are now 1 player over the limit. Axel is a winger, so he wouldn't directly replace Eakin. I wonder if Eakin hits the waivers. I think they want Hayden here.

The fact he hasn't played a preseason game, we are now over the player limit and were trying everyone else except Eakin at C indicates he is gone and for the better
