AKA, he's in year 1 of a 6 year 36+ million dollar deal and Kahn would have to pay him a lot of money to fire him.
- ImThatGuy

Pretty much.

Sounds like they explored every avenue to fire him and keep as much money as possible.

I guess you have no other choice sometimes, they have to find a way to make sure this team doesn't turn in a direction it can't come back from.

Oh yea, and I have James Robinson in my fantasy leagues, he needs to run the F$$KING ball

This isn't really a legal matter. It's the league's interpretation that matters. Countless examples of memorandums of understanding to clarify things. In this case, there's more places to look, but the essence of that section says "if you don't pay him, he doesn't count towards the cap".
- Lunaion

You think the ambiguity of the code won't come into play when Jack Eichel is barred from earning 10 million dollars?

on Monday, Elliotte Friedman spoke on Jack Eichel and his situation with the Buffalo Sabres. While doing so, he mentioned that Flames general manager Brad Treliving put in some serious effort to acquire the 24-year-old this summer.

“One of the teams that we knew was really big into (acquiring Eichel) was Calgary,” Friedman said. “Calgary really tried. And not once did anybody say to me ‘he wouldn’t go to Calgary.’”

When Treliving spoke to the media at the start of training camp, you could hear the frustration in his voice when he discussed not being very active in the trade market this summer. He even got defensive at certain points, saying fans don’t understand that making trades at the NHL level is not like making them in fantasy hockey. Perhaps this situation is what he was alluding to, as a large group of Flames fans were quite vocal about wanting Eichel on the team.

Gee, you don't say.

Why would Eichel care if his salary counts against the salary cap?

Isn't that the aspect of a potential suspension that is being discussed?

he doesn't give seven poops about the cap. he wants his money. if he's suspended, he doesn't get it.

and the question is, is what he's doing legally suspendable.

From the sounds of things, it's suspendable, but we need that cheddar on the books to reach the cap floor. If this is unresolved by the TDL, I'd expect they acquire a cap dump and do so then indefinitely.

The Sabres through 4 games have given up the 4th least amount of expected goals against per 60 of any team.

They’ve given up the 2nd most goals of any team

The defense will be fine, goaltending will kill them.

But I cannot wait for the Chuck’s from West Seneca to run Dahlin outta town

Have people been happy with Cozens in the preseason? I think, I hope he has more to offer. He is reportedly on a line with Murray and Quinn tonight so he is kind of falling from the graces of the coaches too in the preseason.

Cause for concern, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt as he has shown that he can play at this level.

I’m worried about him going against elite competiton with crappy wingers though and how that will effect his development.

Only question I have for Cozens is if he can handle playing Center, or if he needs to play at the wing at the NHL level (at least until he gets more experience)

UPL has had two absolutely awful games and Dell gave up a few easy goals.

Defensively they’ve been fine.

I really think his development will be like Couts. Play great on our side of the puck and let the offense come in time.

So it wouldn't count against the upper limit but it doesn't mention the lower limit
- Hank Balling

If there's wiggle room here, it's in the fact that the lower limit isn't well defined. It's 1 paragraph, compared to many pages and examples for the cap.

I'm sure the team knows the league's interpretation here.

"Lower Limit. No Club shall, after commencement of the regular season,
be permitted to have an Averaged Club Salary that falls below the Lower
Limit for that League Year.
(A) In determining whether a Club has an Averaged Club Salary
greater than or equal to the Lower Limit for that League Year, any
and all Performance Bonuses shall be excluded – i.e., each Club
must have an Averaged Club Salary that is equal to or exceeds the
Lower Limit for that League Year without inclusion of any
Performance Bonus for any Player counting towards the
calculation of its Averaged Club Salary."

"(i) "Averaged Club Salary." "Averaged Club Salary" shall mean the entire
aggregate amount committed by each Club in a League Year, calculated
daily,
as Player Salaries and Bonuses in that League Year (and which is
intended to include any and all other commitments to Players as set forth
below), with Player Salaries and Bonuses calculated in accordance with
the "Averaged Amount" as defined below. The calculation of Averaged
Club Salary does not include Benefits. Actual Club Salary is utilized to
calculate the League-wide Player Compensation, as contrasted with
Averaged Club Salary, which is utilized to determine a Club's Payroll
Room. "

I want to see more skill from him, some more separation, some hands, nice plays even if they are just flashes here and there.
