Aidan McDonough opens the season with a goal today for Northeastern. Minivan posted his stats the other day . Very impressive . Could be a college player to keep an eye on.

CanucksAbbyFan feels he will get a contract soon as the year ends.

See how his season goes I guess. He would have to have a pretty darn strong season.

Michigan is playing its first exhibition game now.

Canucks prospect Jacob Truscott on the 2nd D pair, with Luke Hughes as his partner.

Wolverines are off to a good start, as we might expect - 3-0 with five minutes to go in the first period.

It was a typical Drance Paterson type Tweet/Stat . Pretty useless fact. I wonder if he ever checked into the most overpaid media market for what they bring. Basically more click bait.

I bet he was one of the media saying it is imperative that Canucks sign Hughes and now that he is signed it saying how overpaid they are.

Rubey has been telling us that for months for free.

I think OEL looks great and I am a fan . I think Hughes is overpaid by 2 mil a year and Myers by three .

I do think Poolman looks like an excellent contract. Rathbone looks like a steal and I still don't hate OJ.

- VANTEL

OEL is certainly over paid as are the rest you mentioned. Not against Poolman at 2.5, though 4 years is a long time to commit to a bottom pairing guy, but who knows, maybe he will punch above his weight class.

Last year I said the d was basically a push from the year before. If Hamonic ends up playing I’d say it’s a push again. Some guys will be a bit better, others a bit worse. It’s up to Shaw to fix Greens poopty defensive systems. That’s the biggest area of opportunity to be better.

I follow more the European prospects and the AHL than the NCAA so I am not sure.

I don't know if Truscott should have a assist on the first goal but he blocked the pass across on a 2 on 1, puck was turned around and Johnson on the breakaway scored.

I think the team depth has improved overall, which will improve the defence as a team.

Once again health will be the most important factor for the team's overall success.

We’ll need a ruling from Loadsey, Reuby and Brooksey (the tiebreaker) on if that was the right way to play a 2 on 1 before anyone gets credit for anything.

Any way that stops the other team from scoring is fine with me.

I think Canucks biggest problem on D is experience. They have a few players that will be good in a few years.

OEL is overpaid at Arizona the past couple years yes. Are you stating his reduced contract here is also before he plays a game?

Always comes down to health. Very few if any team survives key injuries.

For me it is a true top 4 D.

You have to be pretty damn good to be a $7m dman. My expectation is a slightly more offensive version of Edler from a few years ago. I liked Edler, was happy with his $6m cap hit, but he took A LOT of abuse on this site, so we shall see.

I think OEL is a legit top 4 guy, he’s probably not the #1 guy that Benning is propping him up to be. After that you have a bunch of 5/6 guys and a joker. Having said that, some of those guys are super young (Bonesey for instance), so it could get better in a hurry.
