Marner hasnt been ineffective the past 3 playoff rounds. The last 3 games of the recent series both him and am were bad.
Series prior he had some games as with the series prior to that.
Saying he was completely ineffective is wrong
True, he didnt play up to his 10.9m salary.
But hes not scorer. - Fakepartofme
I never said "completely ineffective", but if you would prefer me to refine my use of "ineffective", here you go: he has not played anywhere close to what his contract, and status as the highest paid RW in hockey (and 2nd highest paid winger), demands.
He has 12 pts in his last 19 playoff games spanning the past 3 series. He hasn't scored a goal in the past 18 playoff games -- which is beyond terrible for a perennial 20+ goal scoring winger playing with an elite C and getting huge PP mins.
To wit: he deserves criticism for his post-season play. I don't see how anyone could make a case that he doesn't deserve to be under the microscope at this point. |

Liljegren has looked solid all pre-season. I'm thinking he gets a semi-regular look on the Leafs this season to test his quality. He won't make the final cut for opening night, but he'll be up before you know it.
Lilybust is going to break out this season, boys! - mjones242
I'm pretty sure liljegren would have to clear waivers to go to the Marlies, I think he stays as the 7th dman and rotates regularly wth sandin and dermott till someone solidifies their spot. |

He's waivers exempt this year.

Well ok then that makes thinks easier.... - burn
What doesn't make things easier is his bonus/salary structure. He's got 400k of bonuses that pushes his AAV to 1.26(ish)M -- unless someone of equal or greater value is injured or traded, it's going to be tough getting him on the roster.
Unfortunately, there isn't a player making comparable $$$ that could clear waivers (e.g. Engvall).
Having said that, I'll bet there are some injuries that will allow for Tim to step in. Not that I necessarily want that scenario to happen, but we need to see more of this kid this year to have any kind of idea if he can play big boy hockey consistently or not.
I'm cautiously optimistic! |

They’re going to run into a time where they need him no doubt. He looks like he’s ready.
If he’s not playing big mins and getting pp time it’s unlikely he’d hit his bonuses anyways.

That may be true but Dubas will never be able to erase the playoff glory that Babs brought the city. - Canada Cup
Fair enough. But the kids Dubas gave the keys of the kingdom clearly tuned out Keefe the same way they did Babcock. Doesn't seem to matter who is coaching. |

Keefe's inability to figure out how to put two scoring threats on PP1 was a massive misstep last season.
For a coach who likes to fiddle and run a line blender, he sure as poop was Babcockian-level inflexible per the PP. |

The PP was ridiculous. How they didn't put JT net front boggles my mind.
Why they insist on such rigid roles makes no sense to me. |

Agreed.
A three-headed monster of Willie and AM34 as your flanking shooters and JT in front of the net just seems so (frank)ing obvious to me |

They were owning the Habs while they were in the ice they just couldn’t solve Price. Would have been nice if they scored more but it would also have been nice if the other lines kept the puck out of our net.
The PP for sure could have used a little mix up though. |

From what I've watched through camp, I'm not mad if Dermott doesn't make this team. 🤷🏻♂️
Rielly/Brodie
Muzzin/Liljegren
Sandin/Holl
And I'm not saying for a second that holds up all season, but I'm fine if that's the blueline to start... And a trade is made for another defenceman into the season. |

I'm through 3 episodes. The biggest standout for me... Wow. Coach had a lot more urgency than the players. Like... A lot more. |

Keefe is a winner, I believe in him.
Hopefully they all buy in and some stars don’t start to tune him out. |

Actually I've taken a lot of poop on here for defending Dermott in the past. 😂 |

For me... It's a matter of where he fits more so than despising him. He's been horrific on the right, the mere idea that he's on the right says they're running out of options. He's been outperformed by Liljegren through camp and to me it hasn't even been close. |

Bracco proved to be a pretty one-dimensional PP specialist who had zero compete and wasn't interested in the defensive aspect of the game.
Robertson is all about compete. He just needs to figure out how to translate his game to a league that has a lot more pace and physicality.
I definitely feel like he's got a lot more upside and ability than Bracco. |

I hope Lily is ready, preseason doesn’t always translate but he’s got be ready soon I would think.
