Sportsnet is showing “Best of the playoffs” from last year. Way too many Habs highlights.

Just finished All Or Nothing.

I’d give it a 2 out of 5 stars.

I think Paul MacLean said it best when he talked about them having demons. I really do feel sad for them that they lost. I don’t even really mind losing as a fan but they were all devastated, especially Soupy and Mitch. Just great people, salt of the Earth types. How anyone could attack Mitch the way they do is so asinine, grotesque even. But I guess that’s what happens when feeble-minded poopty people get invested in sports, they can’t compartmentalize their emotions and the nastiness spills out. Every poopty little thing bothering them in their poopty little lives gets put on the guy who they pinned their hopes on to make them feel less poopty about themselves.

The Leafs are so lucky to have players like Marner, Matthews, and Rielly. I’m pulling for them more than the actual franchise to win a cup. But the weight of the city, the “Mecca of hockey,” may be too much to bear for this team.

Go Leafs Go.

Watched two episodes of 'All or Nothing'. It's pretty clear that Sheldon Keefe has his hands full trying to deal with a bunch of manchildren.

They'd have had fewer "demons" and had some playoff success had they actually listened to their coach. It's apparent he talked ALL SEASON about playoff habits - limiting turnovers and the importance of scoring on rebounds and in dirty areas. They just did not bring that vs. Montreal. As I said above, it's pretty clear the younger guys on this team are a (frank)ing handful to coach. 10 minutes into episode 1 - about 8 or 9 games into the season, and Keefe is having to chat with Spezza about the perception in the room that he is too "hard" on the younger guys because he's trying to get them to play the right way. Where have we heard this story before?

Robertson has underperformed in these games. They may want to give him something anyway. Simmonds has been pretty bad but that might just be him working up slowly.

Still scratching my head about this guy. Management too probably. Hard to figure what he'll turn in to. Would like to see him dominate more.

He’s an undersized 2nd round pick.

He was playing pretty well and he was all we had. There are others ahead of him right now. Let’s see where he goes. He may just need more time.

It's that fine line LN has to try to balance.

LN is either overhyping ...or LN is being overly critical (ie. can't have nice things).

The kid turned 20 a minute ago and barely played last year.

Outside LN the talking heads have him as a high level prospect so I've going to give him a few more minutes. A full year in the A and hopefully he's ready next year..

Hey Horse Sauce. So true about most professional athletes, actresses/actors, and most other people in the limelight. All most know about them is what they read in social media which is often sensationalized. Yet we still form opinions on them. Although their salaries do come with some expectation of criticism Leaf fans often are over the top.

Could you do me a favour and repost this for Artic Aardvark when he is around? Perhaps you can make him understand that we know he has his favourites and some, well to be nice, he does not like so much. He does not need to make multiple posts every day “attacking” these players even though he thinks he is being subtle. In particular the personal attacks such calling players anti-vaxers.

I quit coaching first as my profession, and shortly thereafter as a volunteer community coach because I really think it is difficult to hold athletes accountable/responsible.

Overhyped?
Just because some people had him penciled in on the 1st line before training camp started doesnt mean he was overhyped.
Just means he was leafs fans hyped.

Which can be worse.

Liljegren has looked solid all pre-season. I'm thinking he gets a semi-regular look on the Leafs this season to test his quality. He won't make the final cut for opening night, but he'll be up before you know it.

Hughes is a steal there for 6 years. I cannot see Rielly getting to 8 with a comparison like that.
- Aaron_85

Although older, Rielly is a much more polished defencemen. Hughes -24 last season was not a mirage. He struggles in his own end with body position and all around strength. Something he can improve on but he's got a ways to go. If Dubas lets Rielly walk for nothing it will be his second major mistake (Tavares) and I'm not sure he'll survive it.

That may be true but Dubas will never be able to erase the playoff glory that Babs brought the city.

Marner deserves criticism for being the highest paid RW in hockey but not being able to be effective in 3 straight playoff series now.

I've never questioned whether this kid is a good person or that he doesn't try hard. I think he's a wonderful regular season player who hasn't been able to crack the nut that is the post-season. Honestly, if he was making 2M less on his contract I'd be talking less about how his salary fits on this team.

Hopefully, officiating will not be relaxed in this year's playoffs and Marner will have more space to work.

Lastly, I haven't watched the documentary series yet (like Chernobyl, which I should watch, I don't think I can bear witnessing the unfolding horror) but I think we need to recognize how deep a blow losing John Tavares was for this team. If he doesn't go down with a freak injury in the early minutes of Game 1, does this team lose in the 1st round?

(frank) no.

IMHO, if Hughes was 27, and entering his UFA years, he wouldn't be signing for less than 8M.

He is definitely very flawed at this moment in time though. His defence is, charitably, (frank)ing terrible.

Marner hasnt been ineffective the past 3 playoff rounds. The last 3 games of the recent series both him and am were bad.
Series prior he had some games as with the series prior to that.
Saying he was completely ineffective is wrong

True, he didnt play up to his 10.9m salary.
But hes not scorer.
